Biggest discounts?

Just bought an RX-8 and was wondering what kind of discounts other people have gotten off the sticker price.

I got a Titanium 6SP GT with rotary accents. The dealer gave me $2500 off the MSRP which brought the price to around $28,839. Then, mazda was offering $1500 cash on a lease. I took this option, but chose to pay off the lease early (after 3 months) so I only pay about $400 in interest. Thus, another $1100 off the car. Finally, I got the $500 college grad rebate.

Total discounts $2500+1100+500 = $4100. In the end I got a GT 6Sp for aroune $27239+tax

Has anyone done better than this? What about with the S plan price? Is the S plan stackable on dealer incentives and/or mazda incentives?

Thanks

Neil

Smokin' deal. But you got the $1,500 dealer cash on top of your deal for a lease? This is startin' to p*** me off. My dealer kept the $1,500 and Mazda confirmed they (the dealer) don't have to make it part of the deal. Okay, I used the word "deal" too many times in one paragraph. But I'm gettin' steamed.

the $1500 was for the lease. When you sign up for the lease, they add it to your downpayment. However, to get out of paying interest for the full term, I only pay 3 months then pay off the lease. So I only pay 3 months of interest... which is approximately $400

thus, the amount i got off was 1500-400 = 1100 off

Well, Mazda explained to me that the dealer apparently does not have to add it (deduct it actually) to the lease deal. Mine certainly didn't, and I didn't sign the form you're apparently supposed to sign for them to get reimbursed. I'm considering making a fuss about this "oversight" to Mazda Program HQ.

thats messed up. They kept the money they were supposed to give to you??

My dealer was pretty hesitant about giving me the lease deal on top of the $2500 off sticker. I had to call mazda corporate to confirm that I could do this. Took a lot of convincing tho.

sounds like a great deal. How does paying off the lease work? You pay off the lease and residual value based on the purchace price you negotiated for the car, in other words, how is the value of the payoff calculated? Could you have paid it off the first month saving 300 dollars?

basically, the lease payments are calculated based on about 7% interest on the purchase price minus the downpayment. The term of the lease was 36 months, however... there is no pre-payment penalty after the first 3 months. So we're going to pay it off in full after the 3rd month.

by "paying off the lease" do you mean you paid off all your lease payments or that you took the option of buying the car? i mean, do you own the car now or are you still gonna give it back after the lease term? sorry if this sounds stupid but i'm not familiar w/ the lease residual values and all that...

wolfbeast, I hope that you own that and didn't just pay off the lease. Even with gap insurance if that car is ever stolen or totalled you are big time upside down.

Back to the subject, I am an S plan participant. At the time that I bought there were no incentives to add to the S plan . After the dealer(s) all hassled me about the S plan (read the program FAQ and the first thing it says is that the S plan is a hassle-free shopping experience ), the dealer that gave me the S plan price never even submitted my PIN. In reality, he just discounted it straight to the S plan price.

MSRP was 31,595
S Plan was 28,914
Discount 2,681

Is this $1500 discount only for leases? Can you get this discount if you're financing?

From the time I drive the car off the lot, I own it. The title is under my name. When I pay it off fully, its just like paying off a loan. In NY, leases dont exist... so they call it a baloon loan, but I was able to get the 1500 off from mazda that was for leases.

Good deal. In other parts of the country there are dealers telling people that they are buying the car but in reality it is a lease. Think it was on 60 minutes.

Must be a strong consumer law in NY.

Kinda sorta...

My understanding is that up until about a year ago, leasing was as common in NY as the rest of the country. What happened was that NY (CT and RI too) had lessor vicarious liability laws which hold leasing companies responsible for crashes in their cars. A number of other states have similar laws, but the possible awards are capped at a relatively low level. NY, RI and CT don't have caps on judgments (or they are absurdly high...not sure which) Recently, a leasing company was held liable in a $28 million judgment in RI. After that, when the state legislatures balked at changing those laws many manufacturer finacing arms stopped offering leases in those three states and many third party banks have pulled out of leasing there as well.

This is a short article on the situation, but I'm not sure how current it is.

I'm about to purchase an RX-8 it basically has everything you can think of option wise except for the Navigation system. The dealer invoice is supposively $30,191 for this car with all these options. I'm getting the car for $30,225. So I thought I was getting a pretty good deal or am I? Anyway, at first I was going to lease it but then opted on just buying it and putting $5k down. So should I still go for leasing it instead and get the $1,500 off then after 3 months then get a loan from a financial instition to pay it off? Will this really work for me? How do I get to keep the $1,500 ? Do they just take that off the total deal of the car or do they just write me a check. How about the lease initial fees and maybe other lease fees? Sorry to draw this out. I'd appreciate your or anyone elses input. I'm picking up the RX-8 tomorrow and closing the deal so I need someones advice on what I should do.

thanks in advance...

Why wait 3 months? You can pay it off any time you want in California.

Be careful!

I am in California and I tried to get the same $1500 discount on my Red MT with GT. I later found out not only they charged me a $600 "acquisition fee", and I must pay $750 termination fee when I pay off the lease. Which will take away most of the $1500 savings. It is just not worth the trouble. I did not read the lease carefully since it was late and I thought I would pay it off right away.

Thanks to a good dealership owner (Kent Putnam in Putnam Mazda) who was willing to re-do the deal with me one week after I bought the car to make me happy. I changed it to a cash purchase. I got the car for below invoice.

Kent Putnam told me the reason Mazda gives the discount to leases only is because Marketing thought it would get some people into the brand and they would return for more once the leases expire.

Yes they still have the 1500 lease deal. But please do not mention it until you agree on a price. Be very careful with the sales manager and the finance manager. So, make sure you know what the aquisition fee, money factor, and interest rate are. Read everything carefully before you sign and ignore any pressure put on you to speed up.

There is a sales rep called Rebecca Leung and she is good to deal with. Tell her David L. sent you. Take it up to the owner Kent Putnam if you have any problems. Putnam is a young man and seems to care about his own dealership's reputation.

Good luck.

I really don't get it. If Mazda is offering a $1500 lease deal, why isn't it publicized? It seems strange that you'd have to ask for it.

great deal. i got mine for 29,500 out the door. i had the s-plan because my uncle works at the Ford assembly plant in Michigan (electrician) and the Costco plan, which is just a 2,000 discount for Costco members. the s-plan was about 2,500 and the costco plan was 2,000 so total discounts = close to 5,000

Well, I'm a new RX8 owner of the female persuasion, and dropped by the Mazda dealer in Oxnard, CA because I drove by and they had a big $4000 discount painted on a couple of the RX8's. Drove one, feel in love and bought.

Mine is: Titanium Gray, 6 Spd, has GT Pkg, In Dash 6-Cd Chgr, the 2AP Appearance Package and the 2 RP Rotary Accent Pkg. I also elected to have chrome wheels (the same as the stock alloy, but they send them out and get them chromed) and LoJack installed.

Sticker was $32,289 plus $520 delivery. Upcharge for chrome wheels was $1200, the Lojack was $495. Purchase price without tax was $30,104, plus a $45 document fee.

They came to my office and installed the wheels (18" w/the Bridgestone Potenzas mounted) - LoJack install also done at the office. Very convenient as I live approx 100 miles from the dealership. Really happy with the chrome wheels - looks awesome with the titanium grey finish!

Seemed like a pretty good deal - and a month later, I am really enjoying the car - ZOOM ZOOM!
