Question Is This a Bad Buy?

Hey,

First post so forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong forum or anything. First, I am about to buy an rx-8 so I went to the dealer last night and test drove one (btw it was amazing!!!) . So I sit down with the dealer and he gives me a 29,293 price quote for a 6 spd MT with only the sports package. Now that includes taxes and everything else, so I was wondering if you all consider this a good price or should I wait out for better.

Also, that was at Maple Shade mazda and afterwards I e-mailed pacifica mazda who gave me an invoice quote of 26,281 before taxes and everything for the same car configuration. I figured it out for that to equal about 27,600 after taxes and whatever. Am a right?

Thanks,
Greg

Find out what the invoice price is. You should be able to get one for right around invoice price.

don't include taxes, tag, title crap in the price because local tax varies.

As SMigneco said, talk about the car price, taxes, tag, title, etc are added on afterwards.

My GT + Navi came out to be just under 30k, so you have a frame of reference.

Also, don't forget about destination fee - that is standard and everyone pays the same amount. So make sure when you talk price with the dealers they include that in the final amount.

wow...gt + navi for under 30k sounds awesome. I'm just pricing around the sports package to get of point of reference for each dealer but I would ideally like to add the gt or navi or maybe even both if the price is right. They also priced me a touring, appearance, and rotary accent package model for 30609. Which looks pretty bad when compared to what you got.

You may find more info about pricing in the Dealerships/Financing subforum of the main RX-8 Discussion forum (which is where I'm moving this thread to).

glxyjones, I don't think it's exceptional pricing - I got it at dealer invoice, and remember the dealer still makes a profit even when selling at invoice.

Tell the dealership you're talking with that you're going to be buying the car at invoice, take it or leave it.

The first dealership I contacted offered me dealer invoice right off the bat, no haggling.

I went on edmunds.com to see what the invoice would be for GT + nav and it still said it was about 30k...I'm not sure if edmunds is accurate but if they are...it seems you got better than invoice.

(thank you for moving my post...I knew there had to be a more fitting forum)

Edmund's pricing is accurate when it comes to invoice pricing. You should also try Flemington Mazda because they have a couple of RX8 in their lot if not many. MTs are much easier to haggle on because of the low sales and larger quantities. I had a tough time finding the AT I wanted and still got it $400 above invoice price. But that was all the way in Harrisburg, PA, a 2 hour drive for me.

yeah I just got quoted 26,281 for a MT with sports ONLY from Pacifica mazda in philadlphia PA. The internet sales rep said they're selling all their rx-8's at invoice. So if they have the configuration I want, I think I'm going to go with them. Anyone in here deal with Pacifica and if so, were they good?

Thanks again

Go to www.mazdausa.com and configure the car the way you want and you'll get the MSRP

Go to www.edmunds.com or www.kbb.com and do the same and you'll get the invoice, MSRP and what people in your area are paying. I don't pay attention to the last one, I always negotiate from invoice up.

Dealer will almost always give you a better deal on a unit they already have on the lot. Good Luck
