Question Anyone buy their RX-8 for near invoice?

From what I have been reading so far, seems like that the majority of the RX-8 owners have been paying MSRP or near-MSRP for their cars. Has anybody tried to purchase the car for invoice or near-invoice price?

This doesn't include any rebates or incentives, just pure haggling between the customer and the dealer.

This car is a bargain at msrp...plus which the dealers are entitled to make a 9% profit for their investment, don't you think?

If anybody tells you they paid 300 over invoice, they're either lying(buyers really are liars, or they stole the trade ), or the dealer is just plain STUPID

What do you mean "the site will not allow me to."?

Just post a scan of your sales order and no one will doubt you again.

I paid $400 under list.

See my longish post under Dealership/Ordering/Financing in RX-8 Discussion section.

Paid Invoice

I paid invoice price on my car. The dealer tried to add a "$1,500" transportation charge for getting my car to me in three days. I saw that and balked at him and started to walk out. He then agreed to invoice. Gave him the money and I was on my way.

What were the circumstances surrounding this? Call me skeptical, but I'd like to see your sales order, as no one's been able to get one for invoice (MSRP, yes, invoice, no...)

Got mine for $250 under MSRP. And I was darn proud! :D

This dealership had a $2500 markup on all RX-8's when I walked in. I simply told them I wasn't going to pay any markup when I could go to any other dealer in the state and pay MSRP, and they didn't give me any argument and immediately removed the markup.

I know the $250 isn't much, but it sure did help me psychologically. I never thought I'd pay MSRP for any car. At least I can still say I haven't. LOL!

Wink I guess I did okay...

I paid the invoice price for my RX8 which was $33,100.00 but was only available (you astute buyers will recognize this by the sticker price) with the GPS Navigational System. Either buy or wait 6 months for the next allocated factory delivery. I decided this was the best excuse I ever had to buy the GPS! :p

I think some of you don't know the difference between invoice and MSRP.

I was able to get $1000 off of MSRP, mostly because my first order was destroyed in the train derailment and my dealer didn't want me going to another dealer. Outside of my own circumstances, $500 off of MSRP is about the best i'd heard of.

THAT is a MSRP price. Check it out on the Mazda website. An invoice price is what the dealer pays for the vehicle, not you paying the sticker price.

I doubt it.

But then again it could be just because I'm pissed I didn't wait and buy one from the showroom for MSRP or less. At least 10 have been avialble since I picked up mine. When your car is the first one around and the dealer doesn't care if you actually buy it or not you loose what, if any, bargaining power you had.
Excuse me for venting...

Ditto again. Honestly, I'm very satisfied I got mine right at MSRP. I believe Mazda could have priced the car higher from the start, so I feel I got a bargain, especially for owning this vehicle earlier then most.

On a related matter to that, my wife took the car to her brother's in Ft. Myers, and everywhere she stopped, she got gawks and inquiries. She kept getting comments like, "NICE car! I bet it cost close to 50 grand, right?" Must be that Italian flair to the body. Anyway, this car looks much more expensive than it is. Everybody is so surprised to find out we paid only 35k for it.

I stand corrected. The $33,100.00 price was MSRP, not invoice (I should be so lucky.)

I picked the car up yesterday afternoon (08/18/03) and I have to say that I wanted to sleep in it last night but my wife made me come in! WOW! What a great vehicle. Driving up to Rockport MA today just to enjoy it and try to get a handle on the GPS system.

That's ok. Sometimes I think one thing, and type another.

Glad you like your car & enjoy driving it. I should be able to say that soon - enjoy driving it. :D

In regards to the GPS Nav, my wife loves it. Here's a story. Just for curiosity, she programmed her brother's address in Fort Myers when she took her trip, even though she can get there with her eyes closed (not driving of course ). Anyway, she wanted to go to a fast food spot close to him, before she went to his house. When she passed his street to go to the resturant, the female voice said, "you need to make a legal U-turn". She had to laugh knowing that it said that, and it had a sense of lawful driving rules.

What I love about the GPS is that if you know a quicker way to get to a location than presented by the system, it will re-program your position and approach to the destination. I am amazed at how much help this device actually adds to the drive. Yes, she almost sounds like "make an illegal U-turn"!

A dealer just agreed to sell me a silver 6MT GT with Appearance, Spoiler, and Moonroof Deflector for $31,500. The MSRP on that is $32,470.

I did this by calling the dealer and saying I wanted a 6MT GT with Appearance, Spoiler, and Moonroof Deflector and I wouldn't pay more than $31,500.

Not sure if I'm going to take that deal, though. Our local dealers are expecting several new ones to arrive any day. I want to see several color side by side before I choose. Plus, I would have to drive an hour and a half to pick that one up. No biggie, but I have other options.

Waiting

If you can wait, which is going to hard - prices will go down.

But trust me - the price you pay for the car is worth it. Whenever I go anywhere - everyone loves it.

The attention getter value is worth a few hundred.

$500 under MSRP

Only reason I tried this is a finance guy new a Mazda dealer and I went back to mine and asked them to match it. I think I could have gotten more off......hmmmmm........car being built this week I am told.
