Same here! Budaman looked up my status around 7/14 and it was "released to dealer". My dealer actually called me 07/16 and said it would be here the next day. Still no car!!!!!!!! Standard response, "Any day now!" AAAHHHHH!

One less now

Well, Javahut is about to go from "unhappy camper" to "happy chappie" - I heard that his car just arrived at Mazda South. Hopefully mine is on the truck behind that one.

As of 7/14 my dealer said "it is on the truck and will be here this week". I called on 7/21 - "it has been delayed but will be here end of the month first week of August".

I called Mazda on 7/21, they said "it will arrive 3rd week of July and is on time". I pointed out that it was already the 4th week of July and he said "it will be on time". ?????

I called Mazda on 7/22, they said "it shows an ETA of 3rd week of AUGUST."

I am starting to wonder about paranoid things like hail damage repairs, spare tire kits backordered to Japan, recalls. ARRGH!

New story

Well I got a new story today. A district manager from mazda actually called me today. My dealer contacted him about where my car was. It was supposed to be here yesterday and was release from port last thursday. It's been sitting there waiting on a transport truck apparently. He was very nice and said he told the port to expedite my car since it's been sitting there so long. He says I'll have it by friday at the latest.

Yeah, along with the thousands of other 8s just sitting there. I'm sure they'll expedite yours.

Sorry, but I believe your dealer is just trying to make you happy by saying what you want to hear.

Just talked to MNAO. I was verifying serial number 4128. They said due to be released July wk 5.

If they move that high with serial numbers, I think there will be alot delivering today, tomorrow, and Friday.

Good luck everyone!

Jonalen,

(WARNING: Sarcasism ahead!)
I believe the delivery schedule is to work from the east & west coast towards the middle of the US. Unfortunately you in Missouri, and people like RXhusker in Nebraska will be the very last to get their cars.

Yet another day gone by without receiving the car. Thanks to Boowana I did get 2 phone calls from the dealer assuring me that the car was released and that it should be "any time now" AGAIN. I don't blame the dealership as they obviously have no control over when the cars are loaded at port. However, I do blame Mazda for their inept approach to logistics and poor delivery process for their pre-order Customers.

I called MNAO on July 21st and they said the expected delivery date was July 22nd. That's when I got it! Everyone should probably call them just to get a warmer fuzzy than from the dealer.

I called them on Friday, and was told it would be on the Dealer's doorstep on Monday. It's now half-past Wednesday, and still no sign of my car. Mazda's warm fuzzies ain't that comforting, I'm afraid.

Wednesday is gone ant still nothing.

I spoke to some punk-*** kid at MNAO who gave me some lip with attitude.

" All that i am able to tell you is that your automobile is still at the port in Jacksonville, you're just going to have to wait it out"

On the up side, Mazda's regional rep. will be at my dealer tomorrow. Appearently they're going to jump down his throat and get to the bottom of this delay.

We'll see....

I'm not feeling too warm and fuzzy either. I spoke to MNAO yesterday, and they told me that my car was being loaded onto a truck yesterday. Well it's the end of the day today, and still no word from my dealer about my car (the port's only a few hours from my dealer). At least the person I spoke to was pleasant.

Oh, and I also get the standard "I'll call you as soon as it arrives" response from my dealer too.

OMG, this is kinda comical. Just relax they will be here soon enough. I'm first allo and was told mid-July. Then late July. Now 2nd week in Aug?!?! Just breathe and relax. No sense killing yourself over a piece of metal that will be here within 3 weeks (maybe).

Well, yeah, I 've officially switched ranks from the really disgruntled with Mazda for the whole inept pre-order program, to the side of this car is worth waiting for... and then some.

I picked mine up yesterday. What a suprise! The color is everything I had hoped for and more. And so is everything else about the car. I love the sound of the purring, whirring rotary... just enough throaty tone to make the engine inspiring to rev. From the driving position, the level of the sound from the engine is just right to me... loud enough to please and tell what's going on, even while the stereo is at a decent level. But also not too intrusive... perfect!. And the handling (super tight and accurate) and sheer driving fun... WOW! Many more things to love about this car!

I know it doesn't help, but I'm feeling really sorry for you pre-order guys still waiting for your cars. Just a few days ago I was in the same boat. I know if I was still waiting, I would be seething by now. And as much as this whole pre-order thing by Mazda has sucked, in my opinion, the car is awesome and well worth waiting for.

And I'd like to say that the entire process of taking possesion of the car, from the time it was received at Mazda South, was extremely pleasant. Mike Moran (budaman), and everyone there were very friendly and courteous. They let me in on the entire PDI process, take a good long drive in the car before purchasing, and made the entire process painless and even enjoyable. Thanks guys! I highly recommend Mazda South.

So, I feel I won't be posting as much, as I no longer feel the need to experience the car vicariously through the forum... my RX-8 is just outside! But here's hoping that all the rest of you pre-order guys get your cars very soon! I know it's easier said than done, but hang in there! You'll be glad you did!

Javahut, I am glad to hear some good news. I sat in the RX-8 a week ago, was smitten, and was ready to sign as soon as mine came in. Since then I have developed some misgivings based on what I have been reading here lately. My little voice is telling me to either 1) wait a while before getting an RX-8 or 2) go back and get the Mini Cooper S. (Actually, my little voice is telling me I have two nice cars in great shape with low miles, stick with them, don't buy another and save the money. But that is no fun.)

Between all the delays (not just the ones at port- the cars are six weeks late as it is), the weak, constantly-cycling A/C, lousy fuel economy, and the heat build-up in the footwell I can't help but think that something is not quite right with the car and more problems/issues are going to come out over time. Sort of like Mazda was so anxious to get rotary power back on the roads and back into the lineup, they came out with a car that has some design flaws and quirks that should not be there. It's only been two weeks and we have uncovered two I consider to be significant- the heat in the footwells and the A/C. The fuel economy is what it is, take it or leave it.

Sure, no car is perfect. But neither my G35 or my Miata, both quality Japanese vehicles, have heat you can feel through the firewall to the interior. All that heat in the RX-8 can't be good for the interior or the engine compartment (though admittedly I have yet to drive an RX-8 to feel it for myself.) I can see interior bits fading or changing color over time if it gets hot enough to feel.

As for the A/C situation... I have read numerous apolgetics going on for the way it works. I am not willing to give Mazda a pass on this one. Sorry, guys, make all the comments about A/C compressors and engine speed you want, I don't think the way it operates is acceptable. When the A/C is on full blast it should blow cold all the time, at idle or while driving . No excuses. If my little 138 hp Miata can do it, the RX-8 should be able to as well. I think it was some trickery by Mazda's engineers to get the MPG up by one or two so it would have a respectable EPA number.

Speaking of fuel economy, it gets tiresome feeding a thirsty car. I know, because I have one. It costs a lot of money to feed a G35. Almost $30 to fill the tank every 235-270 miles. In contrast, my Miata goes just as far for around $13-14 a tank. Yeah, I have the money to pay for the gas, but when I sign the CC slip I see money flying out the window. I hate pulling up to the gas pump in my G35. It doesn't bother me in the Miata. The RX-8 seems to get around the same MPG as my G35, but in a smaller car with a manual transmission- and test numbers be what they may, I think the real-world performance of a G35 sedan and an RX-8 are quite comparable- evidenced by the RX-8's
5-60 times.

Sure, the rotary made the package possible, and I do love the package. But it could be that times are moving beyond Dr. Wankel's creation. Could the RX-8 be its last hurrah? If the RX-8 is not successful, or if it turns out to be a naturally aspirated reincarnation of the troublesome last-gen RX-7, I think that will be the end of rotary powered automobiles. I think this is a little extreme to think this could actually happen, and it certainly is nothing I want to see. My happiest days were spent with a rotary Mazda that never let me down once. But given some of Mazda's botched attempts of the past, and a natural but healthy cynicism, I don't think the car is the slam dunk it needs to be. If it got 22 MPG and the A/C worked properly, it would be. If it could do a sub-6 sec 0-60 without a 7500 RPM clutch drop, it would be. But right now, as i see it, it is a bit underwhelming, and both the car's blessing and its curse is the rotary engine.

This post is not meant to inflame new owners or invite controversy; those who know me from my prior posts know me to be good-natured, fair, a rotary fan and a good contributor to the board. It's just that at two weeks, some of things concern me and make me wonder about life with the car over 4-5 years. I guess I would be a lot more excited about test driving my RX-8 when it came in if it wouldn't duplicate my G35's appetite, if I knew the A/C worked as it should, and noticeable heat wasn't finding its way into the passenger compartment.

I hope it blows me away when I drive it, but at this point I don't think it is a safe $30,000 bet, at least not for me.

I've only had the car a few days, but I've not experienced any of the problems you mention.

The AC works great. It is in no way weak. I haven't had any sensation of any hot air blowing from the AC at any time. And I'm here in Texas, middle of the summer. It's been close to 100 degrees every day so far since I've had the 8. No problems with the AC whatsoever.

Also, zero problems with heat buildup from the engine. I don't feel any excess heat around the shifter or my leg or feet area. Cool as a cucumber. Of course, I'm still taking it relatively easy for the first few hundred miles, so I don't have it pegged at redline 100% of the time.

Another thing... I love the digital speedo. Never had one before, but I much prefer looking down and seeing the exact speed on the display as opposed to the analog gauge. I think Mazda got this right!

Not sure about the gas mileage yet. I think alot depends on how you drive it. If you wanna have fun with the car and rev it like it's capable of, then the gas mileage will probably suffer a little. I'm sure if you wanna get on the highway and put it in 6th and cruise, the gas mileage would be plenty adequate. But who wants to do that? For myself, I've hardly used 6th gear except to test it out, and provide some variation in the revs while I'm breaking it in. I'm willing to sacrifice a little gas mileage to have some fun with the car and drive it like it's meant to be driven!

... sorry for taking this thread so far off topic...
