Almost new 8 owner

I just want to say hello and i love this forum , and tell my purchasing experiance.
First off i found an 04 RX-8 online at a local dealer went out there and drove it ,i instanly fell in love .so i made them an offer to trade my crappy deawoo in and 2 grand cash for there price . they was asking 17.900 for it loaded with everything only 30k miles i thout it was an ok deal . so we go to do the financing and well my credit score is mid to high 600's but i got quite a few medical bills on it that my insurance never paid . so after a day or two they finaly get me a loan. so i ask what is my interst rate and the finance lady tells me she dont know yet. but they only want to finance me 14,500 and i need to come up with another grand , well i ask if they would take 500 off they do . the sale man calls me back say ok we will give you 500 more for your trade . so now i am happy but then he tellls me i need more cash still cause the bank only will finance 14,100 . so they want like another 800 bucks i said id give emm 500 more
and he told me they wont go any lower , oh by the way they only was giving my a total of 2100 for my daewoo lanos does it sound like there trying to trick me into paying more out of pocket , i am real bad with sales people should i still persue this car any advice would be helpfull , and sorry i ramble alot

Well im no expert, but just to let you know I bought my 6spd 06 with 15k miles for 18k, and I still think it might have been a little high because it wasn't the grand touring (leather).

What kind of 8 is it? GT? Touring? Automatic or 6spd? All of these can affect price, and trust me I just recently bought mine (January 21st or so) and I looked for a while before making my decision.

Either way welcome!

That extra grand is for there pockets and the salesmans. Typical dealer crap. Tell them no and walk away. There are other ones out there. If you by on emotions it'll cost you.

here... i've just bought an 04 GT nav + V1 radar with 41k mile and leftover small *** warranty and some left over motor oil + spare tire kit and bra., 15.5k (probably coulda gotten it for 15k) tat will put it in prospective to u. get ur finacing somewhere else, and deal with dealer in cash... if u must... i hate dealerships and everyone i went to hated me cause i found flaws in all their cars and they just shut up, walked out on all of em and ... none of em has sell so far and it's been a month XD their own lost.

well, remember that the gas millage is quite low, and this car can't be driven daily or just pop to ur nearby grocery store. and requires premium.

it is a 4 door though so insurance is not as bad as 2 door sports car.

lets see.. if u want an 04, do private seller use craiglist and stuff cheaper and better. Mt> AT do not get AT or u'll be sad panda.

finally, before u buy the car, remember this: as 08 comes, 04 cars are running out of warranty and more and more will show up.

You don't NEED this car
you don't NEED this color
you don't NEED it now
you WILL pay what you want.

convince yourself all that and u can play the dealer game, if not... don't go.

Thanks for the advice , also what are some of the things i should look for like problem areas , forinstance how can i tell the motor is on its way out . i know how to tell on piston engines but not sure about one in a n 8, Also other than poor fuel economy is there any other reason for it not being a good daily driver , i have an 02 lincoln ls it kinda sucks gas also so i am used to it

You'll possibly have to add oil on every 2nd fill-up.

I'm not sure if the Renesis is any different with the Oil Metering Pump than previous Rotary engines, but I remember you not needing to add any oil through your usual 3,000 Mile oil changes. Sure it burns oil, but I don't think it would dump bucket loads in unless your under WOT constantly. Correct if I'm wrong, so I can learn to stop giving advice

One of the biggies you're going to want to look for is, "Are there any leaks ANYWHERE." Leaks = poor maintenance = poor engine. Other than that, test drive it, make sure the steering isn't off, or the ride is too bumpy or anything, and you should be OK. Maybe another member will be able to help you with what else to look for, as I've never personally purchased one.

Yes, it is somewhat low in the MPG category, especially if you drive it in a spirited fashion, which you should. If non-spirited you should be able to get 18 MPG.

It's certainly a reliable daily driver, provided it's warm before shutdown, or if cold you do the 10 second rev to 3k to clear out the excess fuel.

Premium is prefered for best performance, but it'll run fine on 87 or better.

Otherwise, concur.

Yes, if you change your oil at 3k mile intervals you'll rarely have to add any. It doesn't burn That much oil.
