I'm looking at getting a RX-8 and was trying to get an idea of if this seemed like a fair price for the one I'm looking at right now, and it seemed like this would be one of the best places to ask some questions on it.

It's a 2004 titanium gray model with the grand touring package. 44k miles on it, 2 previous owners (first person has it for 900 miles). It has a clean carfax report and is going for $16995. The dealer does not negotiate prices at all and isn't trying to tack on any fees on top of it.

I went for a test drive yesterday and it felt/sounded good to me but I want to have a mechanic look at it first if I do buy it. Body was in good shape, they pointed out a couple of spots that had small chips in the paint or a small dent when it came to them but they had those cleaned up. They also let me look over the report they got from the mechanic they had look at it and it was along the same lines as everything else on the car.

I also gave a call to a nearby Mazda dealer and asked them to check on the recall status for it, they said that front airbags had been replaced and that there were no open recalls on the vehicle.

I had talked to two mechanics about it, one of them was insistent that a compression test needed to be run on it, the other didn't mention anything about it. The guy who wanted to run a compression test is booked until well into next month before he could look at it, the other guys (Jerry's Little Car shop if your from the Seattle area and have some advice about them) should be able to look at it sometime this week I think.
