I am very close to purchasing my first RX-8. It's a 2004 with only 29k miles and the seller wants under $12k. The car is in great shape, fully loaded, well serviced and still has the transferrable warranty.

My big concern is maintenance. I drive almost 100 miles every single day. 90% of that is freeway, but it is LA traffic. Currently, I drive an old Corolla that needs barely any maintenance, except when something breaks.

I could really use some honest input about expectations for regular maintenance on the RX-8, especially considering I put a lot of miles on it, as a daily commuter. I hate getting my cars worked on, it's a hassle and honestly I don't have a good mechanic. Of course, I don't know anyone that finds it pleasurable to get their car worked on, but I may be a bit more so, than others. One of my co-workers owned an RX-8 for a few years and while he loved the car, he's advising me against a purchase, because of the maintenance. I don't intend to drive the car hard, race or do any modifications. I also know that gas is going to suck.
