2010 R3 or Sport
Hi Guys - I have spent probably the last two weeks on these forums absorbing the amazing wealth of information and preparing to buy an black RX8 manual, preferably the GT. These are the options I am looking at right now.
1. 2005 Red GT - 6700 miles - Dealer - $15495
2. 2005 Silver GT - 55000 miles - Private Party - $14000 (probably ask for $10k)
3. 2010 Red R3 - New - Dealer - what should i target, $23k? Got the first quote - $26,874+TTL
4. 2010 Black Sport - New - Dealer - what should i target, 18 ?
This is in the NY/NJ/PA area.

Haha, just working off numbers from this website. Anyway, Truecar shows a 2010 R3 as 27,200 or thereabouts so if i start at 23k, i should be able to close at 25k. I dont care much for a new car but if i can get one reasonably close to a good used one, I'll go for it.

If you ever want to go turbo get the 2005 model. Also with the price difference you could turbo charge the 2005 and still be around the price of the 2010 models (subject to your choice of turbo kits, supporting mods, etc).
The major pro for a 2010 is the warranty but the downside is RX-8s depreciate pretty quickly and you can't use an AccessPORT which makes FI a much more daunting task.

I am a little reluctant to go for a 2005. For some strange reason there are tons of 2005s on the market, very few 2004s or 2006s.
Yesterday, I drove the 2005 (55k miles) I listed above. Cosmetically, it seemed fine though the owner told me she had the front and rear bumpers replaced. And, it was pretty beat up up on the inside. She had about a hundred pages of invoices for warranty work done. Also, the engine was replaced at 20k miles.
Something tells me I should stay away from this vehicle. What do you guys think?

I bought a 2010 GT manual w/o nav in Maryland back last November. I paid $26k, but I'm wondering if I could have gotten it for 25k.
Gas is killing sales of the RX-8, so I think dealers are more than happy to see them go, especially a 2010 in 2011.
BTW, I LOVE my 8, it's just too misunderstood among the car buying public.

2010 R3 - 25,900
2010 Sport - 23,100
this is sale price, does not include taxes. look for small dealer that has had the 8 in inventory for awhile.
Consider the 2009 + model. Significant changes were made.

2010's still have that $3,500 rebate available, so there's plenty of savings there.
I just checked Edmunds.com for this info.
I'm thinking maybe $18-19k + TTL for the Sport.
Good luck.

No worries, partner. Very happy to help you.
I ran into your other post on a separate thread:
You're correct, a slightly used '09 R3 would save you plenty more. There's a reasonable opportunity to get one close to $20k + TTL, with maybe 10-15k miles on it.

Hmmm...guess I'll need to be patient. I found a dealer with a '09 GT/Nav with 30k miles and he's gone down to about $22,5. Dont care much for the Nav, so either I look some more or look at a new '10 GT.
How much do the softer shockers on an R3 affect handling? I am more inclined towards a GT for the leather seats and sunroof though.
Found this http://www.teamtoyota.net/used/Mazda...a4391601dc.htm today.

You're right though, patience is the key.

This is all just my opinion, so forgive me if I've mistaken on any of the aspects.

I have a rebuilt 2009 Red R3 with 9.7Kmiles on it for sale at $15,000. No sales tax, etc.
All I had to do to the car was replace the interior wiring harness. Runs/looks perfect.
I have had it since last september--car is good. NP's.
It will not have a warrenty--but at this price you can buy your own--which sometimes is a better thing to do anyway?

So, finally did the deed and joined the club. Got me a 2009 R3 with 19000 miles on the clock. Thanks to everyone for their words of advise and to all of you for this website.

You got a unique one for sure. Let us know how you like it after a while.
If you don't mind me asking, what kind of pricing did you come down to on this one?

Nice! you'll be happy with it, I love my R3! Also curious as to what you got it for? I got mine about a year ago new for $25,500, so I'd be interested to find out how much it depreciated!

Those are some good prices, and i thought I was getting a good deal when I bought my2010 R3 in Oct 09 for the same price that a base model was going for. Congrats on being a part of the rare R3 family.
