2007 RX8 Lease question

In the Incentives & Rebates section of Edmunds site, RX8 Sport has the following lease special.

http://www.edmunds.com/new/2007/mazd...92630&state=CA

Under restriction, it says that the dealer may contribute up to $1000 toward the monthly special. I assume that means the dealer can knock off another $1000 (ie down payment becomes $1000 instead of $2000). Have any of you actually managed to get a deal like that?

Thanks.

Lease question

You assume incorrectly. The Dealer Contribution means that in order to achieve the lease payment that is advertised the dealer needs to discount the car $1,000. Not that there is still another $1,000 in money on the table. This does not reduce the amount of money you will be required to come up with to get that lease payment. It requires the dealer to reduce the selling price. This is why it states that the dealer MAY contribute. Mazda cannot force a dealership to sell a vehicle for a certain price, so this is entirely at the dealers discretion. You also don't need to put all of that money down. You can do zero down if you like; however, the payment will go up accordingly. Hope this helps.
