2007 Pricing for a GT???

Ok.... lets say I scour the state of CA...

and I can find the color I want, in a GT 6 speed WITH the spoiler and appearance package... MSRP seems to be around $32-33k.

how cheap do you think I could find one? I've seen recent posts here where people are saying they are getting these for $21k.... I'm assumign these are cars with MSRPs around 30-31k.... so that's a solid 9-10k OFF MSRP.

the best i'd seen in earlier posts were people claiming they got 06s for 6-8k off MSRP when the 07s came out.

One dealer who spent some quality time iwth me on the phone claimed the best he could do on his leftover 07 GT was 3500 off Invoice.
Invoice was 29700. he said the rebate was 3500. the MSRP on that car was around 31k. so his offer of 26k is about 5k off MSRP. decent, but not as good as what I"ve read about.

anyone here care to opine as to how LOW I can really expect to pickup a new 2007 that is leftover on a dealer lot?

thanks.

I"m looking at used....and i'd spend 18-20k for a decent 05 with low miles. maybe a tad more for an 06. but if i can get a brand new 07 for a few thousand more....it might make more sense to get the newer car, bit longer warranty, etc.

it all comes down to what I can get for how much. used 05/06s vs new 07s.

i've already decided that now, the new 08s are too much that it's not worth it to me. i'd rather have a used 05 save the money vs what they dealers want on the 08s.

so - how cheap for an 07 GT 6 speed?

I purchased my 07 GT 6spd 2 weeks ago for $7300 off MSRP. I'm sure if I held out longer I could have gotten the magic $8K.

Honestly I'd say your best bet is a used.. I got an 05 a GT with navi and everything for 18,000 and the car only had 13k miles on it..

If I can get a "new" 07 for 8000 off MSRP, assuming it's loaded...and has an MSRP near 33k.... I'd be spending 25k.

If I can get an 06 that has all the same options, HAD an MSRP of 33k, but now has 10-15k on it, one less year of warranty, but pay 18k... saving me 7000 off the "new" one... I'd go used.

i think a low mileage used 06 will provide the best bang for the buck. these cars depreciate like a brick, the car market sucks, and the RX8 isn't exactly flying off the shelves...new or used...

it's a buyers market.

Agreed with 23109VC, even if you get a decent deal on a new one, it's gonna tank as soon as you drive it off the lot. We got our '05 GT 6MT brand-new in April of 2006 for $25k and change, drive-away price. Right now I'd be lucky to get $17k for it - $7k depreciation in a year and a half (likely $10k in 2 years) is pretty tough. Still worth every penny for owing such a great car though!

They extended the warranty on all models to 4 years, so you could pick up a used '06 with the recall performed, and still have 2 years warranty left.

Also consider further afield - CA seems to have a hot market for the '8 (and all asian imports for that matter, due to the tuner scene there). Elsewhere (especially the mid-west and northeast) they are less popular, probably due to the winters, and the car being rear-wheel drive. You should be able to ship an '8 cross-country for under $500 door-to-door. Test drive a few and then shoot for a deal somewhere further afield.

I just picked up an 07 GT 2 and a half weeks ago and paid 3500 below invoice for it. I didn't realize people were getting them lower than that though. Probably should have looked into that more. They had to go to Tucson to get the car as there weren't any left that matched what I wanted in Phoenix. They also gave me more for my trade than I was expecting so I wasn't going to argue price since I still feel I got a decent enough deal.

I thought about starting a new thread but it fit too well here. I'm trying to talk myself into spending some extra $$ to by an 07 GT. I've looked at other 07s but haven't been tempted. The clincher is that this one is Stormy Blue! My absolute favorite color. This is everything I've been looking for in an 8 but it is more than I was expecting to spend. I never really expected to find a used stormy blue for sale in my area.

From what I can tell it has the appearance package and spoiler. Its a manual and only has 6600 miles on it. Somebody had it for about 9 months and now it's at a dealer. They are asking 26K for it, which seems about right from the previous comments. What are the odds that I can talk them down a few more thousand?

ods? depends on how lucky u are and if anyone else is looking. 1) pay in cash to have more room to talk. 2) u are not getting a good deal, untill u've sat in there for 1 hour+ and u've walked out the door. 3) lowball the dealer on ur initial offer. start with 18k, and claim that many ppl have bought it at that price and for 26k i might aswell go and get myself a new one. sit tight and when they refuse to budge, walk. do not say i will think about it, just stand up and walk away.

LASTLY CONVINCE yourself that THERE IS MANY MORE OPTION out there, and that this is not THE COLOR. if the dealer senses that u WANT this one, game over. the only thing dealer have that is to their advantage is that, summer is comming. also, u can get better deals in a streak of bad/cloudy weather, because the dealers are more anxious to sell.

That's not a bad deal for buying new. You might be able to talk him down a little more, but not much more. Most of the models you see going for $21k probably have an invoice a little closer to $26k or so... or you're looking at used. Personally, I think a low mileage used car is the way to go.... it's not like they changed anything.

Thanks for the reply xsnipersgox.

I don't plan on letting on how much I want it. I have been looking at several other 04 and 06s in my area. I'll probably do my financing though a local bank. It's also a 2.5 hr drive to the dealership so I want to be pretty sure what I am getting into before I drive that far. I'm not sure how much negotiating they will do on the phone or through email.

Don't listen to this guy...

Send an email, don't act attached to the stormy Blue, and inform thm you know people were getting $8k off sticker January, new. That means this car is worth MAYBE $22k, but it's definately worth that to you... see how close you can get them... over email... Oh and tell them you are financing whether you are or not. They will think they have an opportunity at additional profit there and be more flexsible.

okai.. okai.. don't listen to me, i just absolutely don't know what i am talking about.
1) dealer likes cash better.. always.
2) e-mail will not get u the lowest price with used.. the e-mail technique only works combined with fax technique using a fleet new car buying method which is to make the dealer bid against each other. no 2 used car is the same thus you can't use that method.
3) i carry with myself multiple internet posting and offers for different rx-8s when i am shopping just so its obvious i don't need this particular car
4) u try and negotiate a sports car in a sunny weather during the summer with 2 other ppl looking at the same car.. fat chance u gonna get a deal

oh i paid 15k for an 04 GT nav system , red black interior, with valentine one radar system all in mint condition and new tires and spark plugs + transmission flushed. + other little stuff such as 10 quarts of motor oil and 2 filters + spare tire kit. oh.. 41k mile on the meter.

i absolutely don't know wat i am talking about.

oh.. go for 06 used, more bang for the buck, a little more work, but hey, unless u make more than like 90 bucks an hour i think its worth it.

7500 off MSRP is pretty much standard this time of the year, this is the best time to buy a car since they're trying to get rid of their inventory before the end of the fiscal year. If you can talk a dealer into 8k off then go for it right away, you won't find a better deal.

23109VC... California is expensive to buy an 8 in, they jack prices up and don't seem to give much on price. IF you live in southern california I suggest you look in arizona, when I was shopping for the car I found much better deals over there. You'll have to drive way the hell out there to pick it up, but they had the better deals there by far. That said I ended up buying private party from a guy in fresno, very nice deal made thru the wanted section on this forum, and a great guy to do business with.
