2004 6sp Base w/ Mazdaspeed kit - Price?

Hey all, I've loved the RX-8's ever since I first test drove one a few months after they came out. With the recent dealer incentives on leftover 2004 models, I've decided it may be time to jump in and pick one up.

There aren't many new 2004s left in my area (Western Washington), but I found one that's almost exactly what I want: base 6sp (I wanted Sport, but close enough), Titanium grey. I figure with the 2004 incentives, I should be able to get this for around 20-21 - sound about right?

In any case, the only catch is that it has the Mazdaspeed kit on it. I like the way the kit looks, but given the choice I probably wouldn't be willing to pay as much as they charge for it. So, what does the kit actually cost the dealer? What does it cost retail? Know should give me a better idea of how low I can get them on the price.

Thanks!

The range on MS kits varies a lot, depending on whether or not it comes painted. Check out some of the vendors on the forum (rx8garage.net, trussville mazda, rosenthal mazda) and you can get a good idea of how much they are ready-to-go. I've seen entire urethane kits on ebay for about $1k. You'd have to locate a good local paint shop to get it painted and then follow the DIY for install.

Good luck!

I'm not interested in buying one; the car I'm considering already has it installed at the dealership. What I'm wondering is how much the kit cost the dealer. If I know his bottom line, it's easier to talk him down to it.

The MS kit is about $3600 including the rear wing, and a little over $2700 without the wing retail. The dealer has "install costs" so figure if you tell them that you can buy the kit for 3600/2700 and do the simple install yourself, you could probably get them to give it to you for what the retail value is.

They can only say no :D

21k is what I'm hoping for. If the kit is like $3000, then 21k might not be realistic.

it's only worth what you are willing to pay for it.

With the MS kit installed...and from what I've seen around here I think $21k is unrealistic for that car. That puts it around 23k out the door. It all depends on thier circumstances though. Its worth a shot...like what goforwand said...the worst they can do is say no. I would highly doubt them saying yesthough.
