19,600 for an 04' Rx-8?

First I would like to introduce myself, My Name is Edgar And am a long time rx-8 forums viewer, and first time poster.

After finally a long thinking with my wife, we decided to buy a mazda rx8.

Over at my infiniti dealership they have a used 04 RX8 Automatic, looks Base,
it has 12k miles on it.

they are asking 19,600 before taxes, I just wanted to know what you people think about this deal?

Thanks!

The low milage works in your favor but the price is still too high, especially for an 2-yr old automatic with only a base package. Probably could get it for $17k or so. No chance for a manual? I drove both and can tell you that it's far more fun driving the manual in this car!

It took me about 2 weeks to get the mannerisms down on the 8's manual but after that it's a breeze. The short throw clutch really makes it fun. Yeah look for a new '05, you'll be able to get a brand new vehicle for only a few thousand more with a Touring or Grand Touring package. I got mine at the end of January for $23,499 with GT package new.

The manual is really easy to drive and shift, once you get the car moving. It took me a few trips to get the clutch down better so that I don't kill it. I'm not super smooth on take off yet but I've also stopped squealing my tires for the most part. LOL

Got stuck in stop and go traffic yesterday afternoon at the beginning of rush hour trying to get back on the interstate from the Foster Road area and got stuck going up 82nd for a ways and got stuck stopping once and usually twice at each light and sometimes for no apparent reason not being near any lights.

The only thing that seems to be any work on it is getting used to where the clutch catches.

agreed, there is no reason why you should subject yourself to the auto rx-8, its just not fair for both of you.. haha. Anyway, just try your hardest to teach her, i swear to you, you will be happier in the long run.

Hi Edgar! I was in the same predicament as you with my wife.

I will tell you now, you will not be satisfied with the 04-05 rx8 automatics if you have any urge to go enjoy your drive. Especially the base model with the 16" rims and no sport package.

I got a 6spd manual and my wife after a little bit of trial and error can drive it flawlessly it really is an easy manual to drive. I would encourage you to spend a little time teaching your wife to drive manual vs just getting the automatic.

If you must get a automatic, save up and purchase the 2006 version. There are 2 more gears (6spd auto) and 20-25 more hp. I dont think they've arrived in the states yet (but the manuals have), i would seriously recommend at least trying them out.

ok here is the deal the market for rx8s was kind ruined by mazda with the rebates .. and lots of ppl seem to have an think that rx8s pricing in general is high .. but seriously look at the car and what it does ..

2yr old and 12k for 19k .. you can bearly get a new civic for that

ok it is an auto and a base model .. so that evens out the grund a bit .. but ive seen plenty of manual gt's with maybe 30k .. for under 20 .. and that would a be a hell of a deal on used car in this class

auto or not a 2 year old base car for over 19 g's seems a bit steep.
If you can get the whole thing with taxes included for like 18 g's flat then I would say go for it.
