Question 07 GT 19K Miles - How much should I sell if for?

Hey All,

Well, it's a sad day but I'm considering selling my RX8 since I now have a daughter and a larger car is just a whole lot more practical. Here are the specs:

- 2007 Grand Touring
- Galaxy Grey
- 19K Miles (yep, that's all)
- Manual
- Predominately garaged
- Rear spoiler
- Oil changed every 3K or so at a Mazda dealer, kept topped up always
- 4 near new tires (hankooks)
- Axial Flow Shifter (I still have the factory shifter if you want to swap it out for some crazy reason - lol)
- Factory Sirius Integration
- Bluetooth Adapter installed with phone and A2DP support (Sirius currently disconnected)
- 6 disc changer
- Tints all round
- Just minor wear and tear to the body, small scuff marks in a few places
- One scratch on the hood visible from some angles (that was a bad day)

It's been babied (but red-lined daily after proper warm up - <grin>), done a few long trips and has zero issues that I'm aware of.

KBB says 17K private sale which seemed crazy high, I have no idea the numbers I see are all over the place.

Thoughts?

P.S. Would it be worth me getting the scratch on the hood repaired prior to sale?

It all depends on your location.

You could always consider parting out the aftermarket parts to make a few extra bucks. I know that those AFE shifters sell quickly.

I would say between $15-17 sounds reasonable (though I have seen 07's sell for less...)

Thanks for the feedback. Appreciate it.

Well, as my profile says, I'm in Florida. The KBB value is based on my zip code.

I prefer to just sell everything together unless someone specifically wants the OEM shifter installed.

Perhaps 16K ish is reasonable? I'll look at what other private sales are showing. The biggest draw card for my vehicle I would think is it's low mileage. If I was looking for a used RX8 it would be at the top of my list given I always look for low mileage vehicles. I would think that alone would bump it's value in a private sale considerably.

Anyone else have any thoughts? What would you pay?

Edit: Quick search of private listings suggests 17K is reasonable, of course, I have no idea if those listings sold for that price or at all.

geez 19k miles, did you buy it to look at it?

I paid 18.5 for my 08 40th anny with 29k miles at a dealership.
A month after that i saw someone within 50 miles of me sell their 40th anny for like 14500 with 30k miles.

Its going to be hard to find a buyer willing to buy the car for 17k even though i think its worth about that. The problem is that there are so many cheaper rx8's that have been beaten on with 60-120k miles for substantially less $.

If you dont "really" need it sold then set your price and stay the course, low milage cars are hard to find.

Start with $17k and go from there. You won't know, someone might take the bait.

LOL, well I work from home so no commute.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I'm in no rush, so when I advertise it I'll probably start fairly high and wait. Hopefully someone like me will be looking who doesn't want to compromise on mileage and will pay a bit of a premium. Honestly, I expected much lower numbers so 15-17K would make me pretty happy.

Those prices sound ok.

Here's an example. I bought my 2008 40th AE for about $19.5 At the moment when I bought the car, that was about $2,500 below the top end of book value for that car (dealer sale). There were similar cars in the $16-19K price range (and lower for private sale), but they had more miles and no additional warranty.

However, the one I bought only had 13,1XX miles plus it came with Mazda's Pre-Owned Certified Warranty. I couldn't really negotiate with the dealer any lower as I found doing research (by calling Mazda) that Mazda's Pre-Owned extended warranty alone is a $1650.00 option or so (it varies by region). I guess I could have asked the dealer not to sell me the car with that option, and to lower the price accordingly. But I figured I could benefit from the added peace of mind of having an extended warranty.

Anyway, because of the miles and condition of the car, I think you could find the right buyer, a person who will be willing to pay for a car in such great condition. Try not to go any lower than the bottom end of book value - unless you have the right buyer with cash in hand!!
