WA 2010 R3, 48k miles, no performance upgrades

Edit: official ad! 😎

It's the sad time for me to sell my beloved 2010 R3. This is my third RX-8 after two 2005 GTs and this is, by far, the best of them. I'm only selling because it sits a lot more than gets driven and it's taking up space and costing insurance money that I don't want to deal with anymore. I'm hoping it goes to someone who loves these cars as much as I do. It comes in Aurora Blue and has a little over 48,000 miles on the clock, and it's completely unmolested. The only aftermarket parts are a K&N air filter, BHR coils, and a catless straight pipe (more on that later). The rest is stock. The car is in excellent shape for its age with only a few minor dings and blemishes here and there. It runs incredibly well and has always been well-kept. I don't have a compression test on hand (yet), but it has no cold or hot start issues, no idle issues, and it's still peppy enough to spin the wheels at low RPM (especially when the tires are cold). So I don't have any reason to believe it has a compression issue. I'm in no rush to sell it, so I'm asking $15,000. I have the title in-hand and I'm willing to have it inspected and/or shipped on your dime.

The reason for the delay in posting this is I was chasing down a hesitation/stumbling issue. In that process, I changed the oil and filter with Red Line 10w-40 and an OEM filter (all I ever use), changed the air filter, cleaned the ESS and MAF (though they were already totally clean and there's zero oil in the intake), changed the AFR and rear O2 sensors, replaced the battery, took out the cat and put in a resonated straight-pipe, and finally - what actually fixed the issue - replaced the spark plugs. The plugs were all fouled up and, after the change, the car feels like a brand new machine. No stutters, no hesitations, starts right up cold or hot, the power is delivered smoothly across the band, and it feels more powerful than I remember it being. There is a CEL now that I have a catless straight pipe in there, but that's to be expected. I have an OEM cat with about 1,000 miles on it that I'll include, but it's just not installed. In my troubleshooting, I did see the cat glowing around the O2 sensor, which is why I immediately removed it. There is no crumbling in the cat, but I'm not sure if it's safe to reinstall or not. A muffler shop can probably flow test it if you want to run with the OEM cat.

I have a Carfax and I've kept records of everything done to the car in my ownership, which is over 6 years but only 8,000 new miles. It has seen a couple of track days, but it's never been wrecked on or off the track. I always premixed and put in the catless straight-pipe whenever it saw track time.

Only things that are kind of yellow flags:
  • The AUX port has always been really finicky. I replaced the jack itself, but the problem persisted. I think something is going on with the stereo, but I never got around to pulling it out to troubleshoot further. The rest of the stereo works flawelessly.
  • The tires are the second set of OEM tires (Bridgestone Potenza RE-50, I believe). The previous owner put those on there, but they're now a bit beat up from track time. I have recent measurements. While they're at 5/32 and 7/32" in the middles, they're worn more on the outsides of the tires. So it might be wise to replace them soon.
  • I occasionally hear a squeak from the clutch pedal, which may mean it should be reinforced before the common clutch failure issue happens.
Besides those things, the car runs amazingly and is in fantastic shape! Like I said, I'm really sad to put her on up for sale, and I sometimes have second thoughts, but I think it's the right thing for my family in the end.
