So undoubtedly some of you guys with 04's have had to take emissions on your cars. My question is this. What procedure did they use? Did they just check for DTC's and away you go? Or do they check for DTC's, stick you on the dyno and give you the tail pipe probe?
I hope they just check DTCs... do NOT want the tail pipe probe, and I've heard conflicting information if this is done on OBDII cars or not.

Whaaaat. Now this is the conflicting information I was talking about. Is there any place that specifically details what the test procedures are? Like a Washington state government website or something? I don't get why some people are getting the tail pipe probe and some are not.

Ok per the this website :
http://www.emissiontestwa.com/faq.aspx#7
THEY CANNOT do a tailpipe test on an OBDII car. It says Specifically, "1996 and newer gasoline vehicles under 8501 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR)
These vehicles will receive an on-board diagnostic (OBD) test where the testing station's computer will easily and safely connect to your vehicle's computer to receive either passing or failing (trouble code) information on your vehicle. "
So wtf??? Why are people getting tail pipe tests and the obdII tests?

OK Guys... I have the answer. I actually called the Washington State Ecology Department, and got the direct information.
Our cars SHOULD NEVER EVER see a Tail Pipe test. I now have a contact for a gentlemen that will correct this if people have been getting tail pipe tests.
So let it be known, DO NOT ALLOW you car to get a tailpipe test. If anybody wants the contact info for the guy I spoke to at the Department of ecology I will be glad to pass this along if they give you a tailpipe test.

Mr. Örange
I didn't get anything up my tailpipe when I got my emissions tested earlier this month in King County, I just had to turn my head and cough when I got my OBDII checked out
