Speaking of the 24hr in Daytona and Dempsey and charities, my BF and I were there last January for the 2009 races. It was a BLAST! Here's the car he raced then - supporting a breast cancer charity:
Saturday night, after they hit a wall:
Proof!
Patrick before the race ...
Zoom-Freakin'-Zoom!

I love that Zoom-Freakin'-Zoom!!!
Great Pix! I would love to go out there sometime, it looks like it'd be fun.
Dempsey Racing and Team Seattle are hooking up this year.

I want a zoom-freakin'-Zoom plate frame instead of Zoom Zoom
Very cool stuff, too bad the car won't be ready in time to convince them to bring it to the NW Toy Run

We were trying to get that sticker or decal or whatever, but no luck so far. I should check back with the guy who arranged all the Mazda owner activities that weekend and see what he found out.
The Team Seattle guy, Kitch, met Dempsey at Daytona and they hit it off and talked about working together. So Dempsey raced for Team Seattle in their Ferrari at LeMans this year. I was thinkin about doing the thing where you donate a pile of money and you get your name and pic on the actual car that races ("My Face Raced at LeMans"), but I just couldn't part with that much money at the time.
Must be fun switchin from racing an RX8 to a Ferrari...

Never mind. I found it, and not a bad finish!!!
On the track, the #41 Mazda RX8 finished 14th after starting 9th in a field of 29 GT cars. The race began in rain soaked “wet track” conditions, but driver’s Don Kitch Jr., James Gue, Leh Keen, and Dave Lacey maintained a strong pace and ran in the top ten for most of the early parts of the race. Then in the late evening a piece of track debris punctured the radiator and the car was taken to the garage for repairs. Shortly after returning to competition around eleven o’clock, electrical problems struck and the car spent more time off-track being repaired. This put the car several laps down from the leaders. The team soldiered on during the night and at one point Leh Keen was setting the fastest pace of the GT class.
During a cold and blustery Sunday the car moved up several places but there simply was not enough time to recover the lost laps and the Team Seattle car finished 67 laps behind the first place car. Nonetheless, each team member agreed that the race can be considered successful because the team came together so well under adverse conditions. This bodes well for the upcoming Grand-Am Season with the next race on March 5th and 6th in Holmstead, Florida.
