Sweet! I have more respect for him, donating his winnings to charity.

Speaking of the 24hr in Daytona and Dempsey and charities, my BF and I were there last January for the 2009 races. It was a BLAST! Here's the car he raced then - supporting a breast cancer charity:

I love that Zoom-Freakin'-Zoom!!!
Great Pix! I would love to go out there sometime, it looks like it'd be fun. Dempsey Racing and Team Seattle are hooking up this year. |
I want a zoom-freakin'-Zoom plate frame instead of Zoom Zoom :D:
Very cool stuff, too bad the car won't be ready in time to convince them to bring it to the NW Toy Run :( |
 We were trying to get that sticker or decal or whatever, but no luck so far. I should check back with the guy who arranged all the Mazda owner activities that weekend and see what he found out.
The Team Seattle guy, Kitch, met Dempsey at Daytona and they hit it off and talked about working together. So Dempsey raced for Team Seattle in their Ferrari at LeMans this year. I was thinkin about doing the thing where you donate a pile of money and you get your name and pic on the actual car that races ("My Face Raced at LeMans"), but I just couldn't part with that much money at the time. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2749/...9b0b8d47_o.jpg Must be fun switchin from racing an RX8 to a Ferrari... :) |
haha - nice pics Linda
:icon_tup: |
Just a reminder, the 24 hours of Daytona starts tomorrow at noon on Speed TV. There is prerace coverage at 11. I believe the coverage goes till 10PM and then resumes at 7AM. Both Team Seattle and Patrick Dempsy Racing are driving RX-8s :)

TV Daytona coverage is a bit dissapointing. It's all DP class. You get more GT coverage by watching the scroll to see what position they're in.
|
Yeah, that's the sucky part...
I think that's the best I've ever seen Dempsey do so far - Woohoo! Awesome race this year! Zoom-Freakin'-Zoom!!!!! |
So how did they finish. anybody knows?
|
Never mind. I found it, and not a bad finish!!!
On the track, the #41 Mazda RX8 finished 14th after starting 9th in a field of 29 GT cars. The race began in rain soaked “wet track” conditions, but driver’s Don Kitch Jr., James Gue, Leh Keen, and Dave Lacey maintained a strong pace and ran in the top ten for most of the early parts of the race. Then in the late evening a piece of track debris punctured the radiator and the car was taken to the garage for repairs. Shortly after returning to competition around eleven o’clock, electrical problems struck and the car spent more time off-track being repaired. This put the car several laps down from the leaders. The team soldiered on during the night and at one point Leh Keen was setting the fastest pace of the GT class. During a cold and blustery Sunday the car moved up several places but there simply was not enough time to recover the lost laps and the Team Seattle car finished 67 laps behind the first place car. Nonetheless, each team member agreed that the race can be considered successful because the team came together so well under adverse conditions. This bodes well for the upcoming Grand-Am Season with the next race on March 5th and 6th in Holmstead, Florida. |
The #70 RX-8 did take 1st! :) I'm not sure of the team they were on.
