Getting ready to retire and re-locate to the Spokane area. Can anyone here give me some advice on the better areas to live?

Question is what are you looking for? Dry hot summers and lots of snowy winters than Spokane is for you. Do you want to be by the water? On a lake? Lots of very nice areas in Washington. Some of the Island counties north of Seattle are beautiful!

Looking for advice on the better areas of Spokane. I am interested in which areas have the lowest crime rates, best shopping, things like that. Housing prices are also a consideration.

Liberty Lake or Lake Coeur de Lane(Idaho, but barely). You wont be disappointed.

I'm partial to the north side outside of the city. But I grew up 40 miles north of Spokane so that probably skews my opinion. I've always live out in the country, so not much help if you want to be in town.

I'd checkout Coeur de Lane, ID before making any final decisions.

Did someone mention South Hill? That is where you will find some of the nicest neighborhoods in Spokane at least. But yeah, CdA is pretty cool too, or try Priest Lake maybe.

if you move to spokane and live in the south hill just a note, make sure u have a good winter car or car with 4x4 because this winter most of the streets were closed to the southill cars many cars would not make it up the hill.

do Coeur d alene, or post falls, your close to spokane shopping, but you live in the open country, and Idaho does not have emissions stuff to hassle with and registration is way cheaper then spokane!!

if you are really of age and ready to retire i would choose cour d alene as your prime spot. the actually city has nice neighbor hoods and great scenery in the surrounding area. also a plus with the emissions. there really isnt much in spokane honestly.

if spokane is your only option ideally i would reside in the upper north part of spokane or the south hill.

upper north would be pass holland ave which is the spilt ( the y ) at newport. the housing are nice and away from the downtown district and busy areas. also great shopping centers such as best buy, office depot, safeway, barnes, target. living would be mostly like a culvasac.

south hill - plenty of nice 2 level housing (3 if you conisder basement) and access to manito park, finch arboretum, river front and downtown district ( bars, mall, venues ). down side would be winter since you have to go up a steep hill. and often streets are narrow.

indian trail area is just as nice as the upper north except main shopping is a trip.

i would not consider moving to the west towards hillyard due to the old housing.

ya def the northern side of town or lil east but still north is the better areas quite compared to other areas good housing shopping roads and lower crime rate. and yes coeur d' alene and post falls are amazing areas. you get the pristine nature and lake with the small town atmosphere with all the benefits of a bigger town. cost of living generally is higher in cda but it all depends on location. if you like commuting then the valley is perfectly between cda and spokane.
