Salem-Portland: Who is stuck home today?

Well, it looks like me. At my house I have acquired over 3 inches of snow in the last hour. And what had been there from the last time hadn't thawed and gone away either. I doubt it's going to magically clear up before I need to leave for my job this afternoon (at Sunnyside Kaiser). I don't start my shift until 4 p.m., but it's not looking too good. I can hardly see my car through all the snow. I don't think I'll even be able to back it out of the driveway. I just went in and told my mom she was taking me to work today because it was terribe out. She has an AWD Tribute with all-season tires, so she's better off than me in this stuff. I'd just call in and skip work, but I haven't been at this job for six months to be able to start using my time off, and I can't afford to miss right now, since I have to have surgery on my arm February 1 and will be missing two days minimum (can't afford anymore than that).
I don't mind snow as long as I don't have to do anything in it. Too bad I do.

I'm not fortunate enough to have that option. At this point it's either skip work today and not get paid or go right back to work immediately following surgery, which I don't think I can do. I just can't use my PTO yet. And since I hadn't been working for a few months this fall, my "cushion" got depleted and I'm trying to save it for when I have surgery in two weeks.

I used to work at Good Samaritan on NW 22nd. No chance of ever getting there either, I'm sure.
Sunnyside Kaiser is right off I-205, right by Clackamas Town Center. It's at the same exit. Heading up I-205 north you turn right at the Sunnyside/Sunnybrook exit and it's right there.
My main concern is the 5 miles until 10 o'clock Hill on Beavercreek Rd. Once you're down it things usually change dramatically. It's been pretty shitty up by my house for the last week or so (1200 foot elevation) but pretty much fine in town. The snow has let up for now, so I'll see how things progress throughout the day. If I'm skipping work (highly unlikely) I have to call in by 3 o'clock.

That's a bummer, Bunnygirl. I hope everything works out for you. I live in Hillsboro, and start work at 6:00am. I got less than a mile from my house and almost got into two wrecks. Once because my car almost didn't stop in time and once again when the guy behind me almost didn't stop in time.
I decided to throw in the towel and call in and say I couldn't make it. That was about 5:30am this morning. Then just now around 11:00am, my company just announced that they were closing for the day. Apparently almost no one came in to work and with the snow expected to turn into freezing rain, they decided that it would be better to let those hardy souls who did make it in to go home early.
It kind of sucks because my company pays out a bonus $100 if you have perfect attendance for the month and by calling in I gave it up. But I kept thinking to myself is $100 worth the chance that I might wreck the 8? No way.

My next door neighbor just left (the one I share the driveway with) to go into work. She works at Portland Adventist Hospital, about 5 miles further I-205 than me. She is supposed to call me and let me know how it was getting there.

There are so many STUPID drivers out there..heck, one idiot even had the ***** to cut in and out of traffic because the traffic wasn't going fast enough for him!! I was hoping to see his car wrapped around a pole..but..he made a turn..hopefully, he'll show up in the news..dumb @#$#!!!
However, no way am I going to try that drive tomorrow..all this slush will be pure ice tomorrow morning..

It finally stopped snowing at my house. My mom and I are waiting another hour to decide what we are going to in regard to my work. But, it is definitely the other driver's I'm worried about, not me and my driving. I'm a very cautious driver, especially in this crap. So is my mom. She is actually used to this, since she is from Wisconsin and they have stuff like this all the time. I would just hate for something to happen to my car as the result of someone else's stupid actions.

I made it to work, thanks to the mom-mobile. LOL!! I don't know about getting home, though since the freeways were already icing over in all the wet spots that had thawed. I may have to stay here and skip my morning job at home, not that I'm thrilled to get up and work for minimum wage anyway.
I'm just trying to convince Robbie not to drive up to Seattle to night for the Bernina conference that starts tomorrow. I'm totally freaking out over it, especially since he thinks it is "clearing up" and seemed oblivious when I pointed out that all the thawed and "cleared up" areas are already freezing back up again, effectively turning everything into an ice rink. So, he told me he hadn't made up his mind yet and was going to call his dad about it again (who already told him not to go more than once earlier today) and then said he was going to call some friends of his up in the area to see how things were. I don't see what difference it makes if it is shitty down here and on the way up!!!! I hope he doesn't go!

Well, I talked him out of going, at least for tonight, but he thinks he is going to try driving up tomorrow morning, which I still don't think is a very good idea. I don't think it's going to be that safe. He called to tell me this, which it was hard to hear him over all the squealing in the background (sounded worse than a stuck hog). Turns out his roommate has his totally obnoxious, bitchy, bimbo girlfriend over again. I spent this last weekend over there again, and so did she. Besides making rude comments to me (this is the second time I have met her) she just kept giggling and bouncing around like an idiot. I have yet to figure out what he sees in her. All I know is she is the ex-girlfriend of one of the other roommates who has since moved out. I guess some guys will put up with anything for free, easy sex.
Do normal people bounce up and down, giggle, and clap their hands over almost everything?

Ummmm.....negative, Bunny :p As much as I would enjoy the bouncing part, if that giggle is like a stuck hog..no matter how easy the sex..man..that would drive me nuts..then again, maybe she sounds different while in bed??

Hahahahaha...well, so much for that theory Am curious on how you know what she sounds like in bed *grins*, but..removing her vocal cords..hmm..man..she must sounds scrumptious :p N-O-T!! There are ear plugs available that you can utilize to drown out the noise :p

Well, Garrin's bedroom is right next to Robbie's bedroom. The walls aren't soundproof! I suppose that's okay, though, because it only takes them a minute or two anyway!

DOH!!!! :p
How is PDX with the snow? Down here, most of the snow has melted away..so..commuting is relatively safe, except for the occasional idiots that just don't think..

I haven't been out yet. I will be leaving by 3 p.m. to get to work (my mom's taking me again). At my house it's 29 degrees, covered in ice and snow everywhere. What little did thaw is now frozen over into ice. So, at least for the first 5 miles until we go down the steep hill (just tons of fun) it's going to be bad, although they did plow and sand it yesterday. It was still really bad. When we got on 213 after Beavercreek road it was pretty bad. My mom was going 40, so not terribly slow. There were other cars going the same approximate speed. There was also a sanding truck just in front of us, that was going that fast with a big lit up sign saying not to pass the sanding truck. Well, several crappy cars and trucks went flying past her, flipping her off, and passing the sand truck. Well, they got in front of the sander and slowed way, down because they were sliding all over the road. We ended up at the same stoplight with them just before we get on I-205, which was pretty slippery since it was right in between melting and freezign at that time. Last night it was totally froze over and really slippery. Hopefully it's better down there today.
Robbie left this morning to drive up to Seattle for his conference. He said the roads weren't too bad, but a little slippery and kinda slushy. He lives in the Lake Oswego area. Funny though, a lot of roads are closed that he needs to take to get up to where he is going in Seattle so he's getting lost trying to plan out his alternate route while driving. LOL! I told him not to go, but he didn't listen to me. He's supposed to be home tomorrow night, though.
