Does it just do it automatically? You're driving alfa? That would be fun, but I'm busy this month

i'm not sure how it works for lap times but it's probably pretty easy.

And yeah I'm planning to hit alfa since it's in the evening.

It has been awhile since I drove it, so be careful at PIR. Older track with not much runout. The last turn entering the home straight is tricky. The back straight is a riot.

Nemesis when was the last time you drove at PIR? They repaved it a couple of years ago so it is in really good shape.

that was me driving with headlights!!! it was an alfa event a couple 2-3 years ago. This one looks good and runs the same, 5-darkness, so it'll be fun. I'm all registered so you guys should come out if you can. if you just want to be a turn worker you can earn track bucks too.

Since you insisted... My wife and I are scheduled to be in ORP for both days, sharing our car. Black 09 R3 w/tinted windows that's usually around Marysville.

She's going to bring her camera and will be wondering the track. So if you go you'll be able to get some great shots of you at the track. Here's what she got the first time shooting cars, it was one of Don's 1-day course with 22 Porsches and a full day lapping. Busy track. She'll have a couple more days up sometime in the next week.

/plug. Sorry about that, just trying to drum up some interest and get more 8s for the ORP days

WooHoo! Looking forward to meeting both of you. Hopefully you have a hotel room reserved? If not, Don might have some reserved for the event in Moro (there's not much out there.)

Great photos too. I especially like 30 of 37 on the 8th. Good location and concept. To get two cars in the frame there must be hard

I am hoping to sign up for the track day on the 22nd. I 'll know tomorrow.

I'm looking forward to meeting you as well. I watched a bunch of your in-car videos before I started lapping. It was really helpful to see an 8 on the track w/all the telemetry. I'll need to bug you about your setup at ORP

Thanks for the reminder, just sent Don an e-mail. I kinda recall him saying he's got a bunch of rooms but that may just have been at PIR. But worst case we're good with camping.

3a/b makes for some good shots, but you're right that timing can be tricky. The trans-am driver was a bit nervous that day. Understandably, he snapped a crankshaft the last time at PRRC. It was really funny how easy he'd pull away out of 3a.

Pretty good chance she'll be there the 22nd since there's a 1-day school that day. She'll be there the 15th, but thats about as far out as she's got planned.

Not sure what you mean about setup, but I'm all stock in those videos. And please don't take my lines and shift points as gospel, I still make a lot of mistakes haha. The one video I recommend watching is the ProFormance video on the first page of this thread. It will serve you well!

If you have any question please feel free to ask here or pm me.

I have signed up for the 22nd so I will be out there

Heh, by setup I ment camera placement and software. I work with computers so I've spent a fair chunk of time looking at videos of PRRC while waiting for things to finish. I like the overlays you've got. And the exposure is nicely balanced between in-car and outside.

As for shift points, I've got a series 2 which is geared shorter and a bit annoying at PRRC. I run out of 3rd gear right in the middle of 9. Might end up shifting before 9. Turn 2 has a similar issue, redline in 4th is 116 (121 for the S1). I'm at 120, and haven't hit the limiter yet....

I have my cameras on a mount I built from Lowes, which is bolted to the child seat mounts by the speakers. It's just two L brackets and one of those 1" cubed bars with holes in it so I can place the cameras anywhere along the bar. The only thing I had done, which I couldn't do myself is, I had a guy weld a little piece of metal from the L bracket to the bar for rigidity. I am really happy how solid it is.

And no, I am not proud of the paint job on the mount haha

As for the cameras I use two Sony Handycams. The front camera is HD and the chase cam is SD. I use the phone app "Trackmaster" for the GPS information, and I use the app "Torque" to be dislpayed on the phone. I also use an external BT GPS, which has a faster polling rate than the phone's internal GPS. The phone's GPS works, but the speed data gets jumpy, because it only polls at 1hz.

I take the trackmaster data and put it into a program called Dashware. There's a free program, I believe is called "RaceChrono," that you can use to put the data into video, but I don't like the way it looks. With Dashware, you can customize everything, and it's pretty easy to use. I then use Corel's VideoStudio Pro X to put everything together. In my ORP video I put a touch of transparency to the chase cam, and I think that looks nice.

Wow, that is a big difference in transmissions. I should be able to get 132 out of fourth, but I have only gotten up to 128. What is your top speed in 3rd? I run out of 3rd (93 MPH) in the valley after 4 and ride it so I don't have to switch back to 3rd in the braking zone of 5A. Too scary for me.

That's a great idea for a mount, I'll have to steal it. Happen to know what the screws are? I need to get around to getting windows running on a virtual machine... All my computers are Linux or OS X. Thanks for the pointers.

Not exactly sure about 3rd. I've noticed the limiter mid-9, into 3a and around 4. Usually with enough track in front of me that I'm shifting into 4th. I know I can carry more speed through most the corners, so it's just going to get earlier. Math and random docs[0] says the limiter should be around 87 but that seems low. Juilene says she's hit it over 90 in 3rd on the straight, which matches up with what I've noticed coming around 9. On a fast lap (for me) I'll bounce hard off the limiter right before that bumpy patch during track out. But I'm not exactly looking at the speedo there, and I'm just using the phone's GPS. I'm not sure I believe that I'm doing 90 through 9 but that's what trackmaster claims...

Yes, downshifting into 5a sucks; there's so much going on there. But taking 7 flat out is what scares me right now The car will do it but... eeek. Passing there sucks so bad.

Somehow I missed the "3rd and 6th are different" disclaimer at the top so the numbers in the chart are off, and it puts 3rd about the same place (limiter at 93) in both series.

The bolts from the L to the bar are whatever fit, I can't remember the size or lentgh, and I just used the bolts that are in the child seat mount bracket to attach the L to the car. Becareful when you remove the plastic childseat bracket covers. The bracket pegs break easily. You'll want to have them open all the way and gently pull up.

We're probably shifting int he same place for T9. I've toyed with shifting before 9 and I might try it again and see what the speed difference at the braking for 2 is.

7 scared me for a long time too. I still don't like it. I exit 7 at 85-92 and that tire wall freaks me out! I could do without passing in 7 too. Too many cars don't back off the throttle through there while allowing us to pass thinking we caught up to them because we have so much power
