Mr. Örange
Just dropped my car for service and there was a customer waiting for a loaner, his eyes got real big as I drove up and he asked me with a smile...."is this my loaner?"

My wife and I are flying into Portland next week, and we will be there into the weekend. (Her brother is getting married). We plan on going to see some of the landmarks in the area, Mt St. Helens is one of them, possibly Mt Hood. Any specific recommendations or specific routes that are enjoyable? We will have a rental, so a FWD slushbox, but I'm crossing my fingers for a Ford Focus at least, since they are pretty decent.

There are a lot of places to checkout. If you go to St Helens I recommend the south side. It is an awesome drive.
A really nice drive is Historic Columbia River Highway. You will wish you were not driving a FWD slush box! If you do both of these drives you are going to see why the PACNW has some of the best roads in the USA for driving.
Multnomah Falls. If you guys are up for a hike it is 2 miles to the top of the falls.
Vista House
Portland Japanese Gardens
Portland Japanese Garden
Pittock Mansion built in the early 1900s
Pittock Mansion
Bonneville Dam. They have an awesome fish hatchery as well.

Thanks! I doubt we could hit everything, I think we have 2 total days of sightseeing available, but definitely good material here.
... I'd do it too Rent someone's 8 that is. Thrifty is charging me $22.10 a day for 9 days, plus $800 in taxes and fees, most of which is because I'm dropping the car off in San Diego, not Portland. I'd easily drop a few days from that to drive an 8 instead
