New Solo Class in Oregon Region SCCA

"Tuner Car Challenge"

Only rules are:
- Car must be street legal
- No Nitrous
- Tires must have a treadwear rating of 140 or greater (most street tires fall into this category)

No other rules!

If you've ever wanted to try autocross but were turned off by the rule set this is your opportunity to come out and play! Other regions have adopted similar classes and have had good turn-out & competition, so we have hopes the same will happen here.

Schedule:

http://www.oregonscca.com/content/section/3/287/

PM me if you have any Qs.

George

Does no CELs count as street legal

^Good question. I suspect the answer is "yes." I believe the main reason behind the "street legal" aspect is to keep purpose-build race cars out of the class.

I'm sure the aftermarket turbo kit would not be considered legal. I have not done an autocross in years and would love to do it.

Just double checked. Basically, if your car has plates & current tags, does not run NOS, has 140 or above tires, meets our sound regs, and passes safety, you can run in this class.

We are not going to be super tough-minded about you car other than the above. It's all about casting a wide net, and encouraging most everyone to come and have fun. I'm really looking forward to seeing what shows up. Makes me want to put a turbo in mine...

^Need to get the Seattle club to do the same, and there could be some great show-downs at Packwood in this class.

Bump - first event this weekend. Sat is a practice day, Sunday is the first "points" event. New class runs in the morning on Sunday. On Sat come either for the morning or afternoon - or both!

Cool.

Next event after this weekend is March 27, again at PIR. I'll be the event chair so it should be an RX-8 friendly course.

I just put some RacingBrake ET500s in my car, and they are fantastic. Very responsive on the street, even in the current cold weather. Have not autocrossed with them yet, but had ET800s last year and have no concerns that the 500s will be up to the job.

My son has BB games for a few more weeks and will be able to attend then. 3/27 could be a possibility.

Well, we had a good turnout this weekend with quite a few a few new drivers showing up to race in the new class. Saw two new RX-8s, but one was entered in STX in the afternoon, and I didn't get to meet the driver.

Another bit of info I'll pass on - this class is only open to novices. So, for example, I can't enter in my car, even though it's technically legal. We do let you run in the class all year, though.

I remember when I heard that up here and they kicked me out of Novice after my first run.

We're still figuring out the details of how this class will mature, but my current understanding is that we will bump the overall winner for the this year (based on points) out of the class next year.

But, you'd get a trophy at our yearly banquet!

I'd like to try and attend events in Oregon and Packwood events but it's way to far for me to drive.
