New RX-8 Owner
New RX-8 Owner
Hello everyone -- I have been lurking around the RX-8 Club for a few weeks now, and finally bought my blue 2006 RX-8 last week. I love it.
Unfortunately, the seller was not very honest with me and there are some issues with it. Looks like at some point it was in an accident, although the title was clear. It needs a new drivers side airbag and there is a hole in the air conditioning condenser. Looking at a $3000 repair bill -- for which the seller agreed to pay around $400.
I'm looking for which shop you guys recommend here in the Seattle area -- I know not many people deal with airbags. So I might I just use the dealership for the airbags and another shop for the air conditioner. I'm in Renton, but willing to drive the car somewhere to get it fixed.
Also, I'm getting condensation in my taillights -- the Mazda dealership said they will only replace them if they are full of water, not just condensation. The service bulletin says "excessive condensation or water" -- have any of you had your tail lights replace because of condensation in them?
Thank you!

Welcome to the addiction...I'm starting to think mine was in an accident too...the hood doesn't line up right with the fender on the passenger side (a bit of a gap) but the title was clear. Honesty seems to be lacking these days...sad
Welcome!
Hm, Clear Corners huh? I wonder if we could track down your car by that... That's a bummer though. You should come meet up at Dick's in the U-District this Thursday, we might be able to figure some stuff out for you (a few of us have access to Mazda OEM parts at dealer cost).
As for Shops, Bel-Red Auto Rebuild has been very highly recommended to me (but I didn't use them when I needed to
). Mike lives down in Renton too though, maybe he'll chime in with something closer?

If it were me I would replace the airbag myself. But since thats a serious safety issue should leave it up to the dealership. That way if something goes wrong you can always hold them to it.
The AC. I havent thumbed around enough to see the whole system. But hey its turning into fall/winter. You wont need AC for another hmm wait almost year.
I've had great results from Bellevue Auto Rebuild. I can give you a reference if you want as well. I've sent probs 5 people there all with excellent results.
Where in renton are you?

I've had both tailights replaced under warranty due to condensation only (not full of water). The new gaskets have held fine since.
You need A/C in the Winter for defrost/defog purposes, so get it fixed.

It was great meeting everyone last night.
I called the Mazda dealer again here in Renton and gave them the code -- he said its the gas cap again. It's going in on Monday for the clutch -- I'll have them look over more than just the gas cap!
