Angry new engine may be!!!

My check engine light came on on Monday. Today I went to Milam Mazda, and after 2 hours, they tell me it may be 1. the new cat and new coils, which wood take one or two days or 2. new cat, new coils and new engine, which wood take a week or two. will found out later today, but from what the guy was telling me he found 105 miss fires in one port and 5 in the other register in the CPU, so he needs to drop the cat and do 6 vacuum test and check what the difference is between the two ports, and if there is a differes of 12% I am the lucky winner of a new engine. wish me luck!!!!

First off - Good luck with Milam! They absolutely were dishonest with me, in their service department.

2nd - A new engine is no big deal, really...In fact, I think my new engine is stronger than my previous!

dmp,

I thought you had issues with the motor they replaced in your 8? Am I thinking of someone else? If not what was the issue and the resolution?

Good luck. I hope it's just the coils and cat. I had a brief CEL at the track Sunday. It went away after I pulled off and shut her down.

Until the light comes back on, I'm not taking mine in. Anibal is the one with definite issue right now.

That was the second CEL in 55K of mostly hard driving. If it is an issue, I just hope it comes back in the next 4K miles so the extended power-train warranty covers it. Otherwise I'll kinda be up you know what creek.

Kris - check your PM.

It's in for a transmission replacement. Seems they removed the tranny w/o having a replacement; so it's sat. They didn't start work until late last night or today.

I wouldn't worry about the CEL at the track. It's very common for this car. It happened multiple times on my last track day. It's usually a misfire at high RPM. If you search on the forum you'll see a lot of people have this issue at the track. I had to take mine to Schucks during the lunch break to have it cleared. After it misfires the CEL starts flashing. If it has another misfire while it's still flashing it will come on solid and you'll have to have it cleared.

I have 44,346 miles on my car. I do not drive my car hard all the time, only on the drives with Kristopher is were I do drive it very hard. But on the mount st. Helen drive the check engine light came on two time and I did feel a power lost both times. because of the power loss I look at my dash and saw the light on, but on the last drive nothing and on Monday I was cruising at 55 mph on Cruise control went it came on. But I do remember that on the last recall everybody was talking about the fact that it took all day to have it done, and Russ dunmire only took one to two hours max to do. I remember they change spark plug and connected one computer to it and a full tank of gas. so if my memory is right they were supposed to do a vacuum test, and as far as I know you have to drop the cat for that!!! Right? so I am going to wait to get my car fix and after that I may call Mazda USA. what do you guys think.

So I guess that means coils and an ignition amplifier go on my shopping list.

Kris, if you want I can bring my canscan tool this Sunday and we can download your CEL to see what it is. I also had misfires at the track so it's pretty common. Personally I think the first thing to do is upgrade the wiring gauge to the coils. It's 16 gauge wiring and pretty much conducts more heat than electricity.

edit: DMP isn't in pronounced POO yall up?

Nope, it Pew AL Up (crazy Native Word), despite Tacoma being far stinkier (pulp mill) for a long time.

I don't think that's necessary. I haven't had it since, and I've put LOTS of miles on I guess I'll upgrade the wiring as well. I'm going to need a hotter spark sooner or later any way.
