My RX8 is in indefinite hibernation
Hi all. Been forever since I posted here even though I still lurk around the RX8 forums. I still see a number of familiar folks around and definitely a lot of new ones. I doubt if anyone remembers me now but thought I'd share this...
So after 8 years, and around 125,000 miles or so later, my Renesis has finally bit the dust. The compression is way below spec, power flats out past 3800 RPM, takes forever to start, and has a chance to stall during idle. I was quoted $6800 for a new engine, and also was given the option to just rebuild the current engine which may be cheaper.
I love my RX8. Placed a few mods in it (MazdaSpeed dual exhaust system, K&N v.2 intake system, Buddy Club racing spec condenser, Oil catch can, Tanabe GF210 springs, and a set of 18x8.5 Motegi Racing MR120. The time and miles I had with this car were great. I have no regrets.
For now I have the RX8 in my garage hibernating until I decide to get a new engine. Maybe even put in a 20B.
But until then I'll be enjoying my new drive - a 2014 Subie WRX. Talk about fun in the snow, eh. Can't wait to tune this thing to Stage 2.
I'll still be crawling and lurking around the RX8 forums though. Maybe even participate on some of the RX8 meets with my Subie when I can. Regardless if I have a different drive now, I still have a soft spot with the RX8. Cheers!

Jingle Ballzzzz!
Proxi!!!!
Hey! Nice to see you again. I'm not on here much either. Sad to hear about your 8. I lucked out and got a new engine at 97K miles and a new clutch. Now other things are starting to fail - need to replace a xenon bulb and ballast... expensive, unless I find someone to help me do it.
Congrats on the Subie!! You still up north?

Mine just bit the dust too, it's still running but it's getting ready to go... I won't be keeping mine though, and like you I'm going for a subaru as well!
