Halloween Dent

So I was driving home from a friends house on Halloween with my wife when I heard a loud bang. I thought I had run over a rock that was thrown up into the wheel well, but I'd never heard one that loud. It was only another couple miles to my house so I continued on so I would have some light to take a look. When I looked at the car I realized it wasn't anything I had run over. Somebody threw a large rock from somewhere off of the road that put a very large dent in my right rear quarter panel. I called the cops and they filed a report and checked it out, but I'm sure they won't find out who did it. It wish they could. Apparently they had a similar report of kids throwing apples at cars in the same area, but this was definitely a rock. It was probably as big as an apple though. My insurance will cover the repair except for my deductible, but I don't think the repair is going to be easy. The dent is not a smooth round dent and it's not on a flat surface. I swear this car is a magnet for random objects. I bought it new six months ago and so far I've been hit with a hubcap that came off of another car, a spare tire in the middle of the freeway, and now a rock that somebody threw. I'm very glad that the rock didn't hit the passenger window because it would have hit my wife in the head., but this still sucks. Anyway, just venting.

Wow - your photos bring me pain. ******* kids i swear, normally I don't condone beating up children but **** em if I ever CAUGHT a kid doing that to my car they would hurt.

Kids are fucked up today - throwing huge rocks like that? where are their parents? do they realize they could kill someone?

I hope your deductible isnt too high - looks like they might have to replace the whole panel

I hope it gets fixed fast for you bro

Fortunately it falls under comprehensive so my deductible is only $50. I'm thinking the same thing about the quarter panel, although even with replacing it the paint matching is going to be difficult.

Believe me, I'd like to beat the crap out of whoever did it, but you have to be pretty careful about that nowadays. A kid I went to highschool with egged a car, and the guy chased him down and beat the crap out of him. He sued the guy and won a bunch of money. I was pretty dissapointed, because the kid really deserved what he got. I think it's so important to teach kids to respect other peoples property. I wish everybody did.

Ouch.

That is going to be expensive to fix but at least you'll only have to pay the deductable.

I don't have any children. If I did and I caught them doing some stupid BS like that they would learn a new definition of pain and suffering. That's irresponsible parenting and complete stupidity rolled into one package. Unbelievable. I did a lot of stupid things when I was young but nothing ever destructive towards other people's property. I knew better.

It's tough to prosecute if they never find the little bastard. Cops need to start treating car related crimes like other crimes. 'cause if my cars get treated like that, the cops better find 'em first, or no body will.

the ultimate fault is the parent of these fuckstains... they dont learn respect at home because both parent probably dont give a **** what the kid does and doenst feel like acting in a parental fashion. I'm sure most of us here when we were little (im only 24 btw), when we messed up as kid our parents came down like iron justice and whopped our ***. I remember being chased around the house by my mom with a belt when i broke something or messed up.

Parents nowadays want to "talk" things out with their kids, **** that. Kids dont listen period. I say parent need to take all the responsibility for their actions (would teach them to watch them more often)

Oh man, I feel your pain. Though it wasn't done on my RX-8, some bastard "key'd" the f-word on my wife's Volvo sedan. People who vandalize other people's property need to be publicly flogged!

Vandals like those need to be thought a lesson.

I beat my kids when they were young...discipline early and often...in attempts to keep them from such behaviour.

If parents were MORE worried about a kid's development, rather than the kids immediate 'happiness', our country would be better-off.

:D

Sorry about your dent, though.

Not to steal the thread but my dad and I talked about this not too long ago. If the US had some set of corporal punishment laws like Singapore does, you can bet that we'd have a lot less vandalism and littering around here.

Remember that American kid some years back who ripped down signs and other stuff in Singapore? The judge there sentenced him to 40 lashes with a bamboo cane. I remember all the public outcry here about it...I remember thinking "WHY?? He went to some other country and screwed up, so he should get punishment according that country's laws".

Anyway I digress, if kids were to get lashes with a bamboo cane after doing stupid crap like what happened to poor Skinless's car I don't think we'd see this too often.

Once we have the beat your kids attitude, why not let the cops give you a beat down when they catch you speeding? No fines, no court, no questions. Just one good whack on the back of the skull with a billy club for each 5 MPH should prevent everyone from speeding because they'll all act rationally at that point.

You're aware that they EXECUTE you in Singapore for some minor offenses and that an RX-8 would cost you $100,000 to use it for a few years? Sounds great.

People are idiots, but there were plenty of stupid kids back in 1950 too. A guy in my dad's HS threw an orange at an oncoming car and killed him when the orange went through the windshield and hit the guy. I guess parents in the 60's sucked too, because we can extend one anecdotal experience to a whole generation.

Hey if it works, it works. Some kids just need a whuppin' and this generation can be pretty soft. You're the one who's taking it to extremes, I'm talking about minor offenses. Sounds like you need to get a grip man. Civil rights aren't to be abandoned but we need more effective ways to keep morons in line. For some reason you're thinking that I'm talking about turning the US into Singapore, read again.

If you wanna talk about stupid kids, some parents can do everything they can but sometimes the kid just needs to learn the hard way because they just don't listen and that's a fact.

P.S. Couple things wrong with your arguments:
1. This is not a random, senseless act of violence (a la Rodney King). That kid was tried and convicted in the judiciary branch of their parliament much like our court system here. And yes I know about their capital punishment system, if you read I was talking about CORPORAL punishment. Incidently Singapore has one of the lowest crime rates per capita in the world.
2. I think that $100,000 RX-8 (whether that's a true price or not) has more to do with economics and environmental concerns than with law enforcement (that country is pretty small).

If you want to continue this debate, start a new thread or a poll. Like I mentioned before, I don't want this thread hijacked anymore than it has.

Wow, I'm not quite sure how this thread to turn into a discussion on beating your kids. I kinda think teaching kids respect for other people and their property is a completely different issue. Not that I wouldn't like to give these kids a sound beating, but that's just reactionary. I really wish they'd get caught and have to spend a few months working to pay for the damage, but I know that's not going to happen.

Yeah I was trying to steer away from that. Beating your kids is not the same as punishment in my eyes. Some people believe in corporal punishment, some don't. I was raised on it am a firm believer in spankings (only when absolutely needed). But the kids that did this to your car deserved a swift kick in the @$$, preferably by you lol
