Arrow February Drive - Rain Forest Frolic

We're keeping the date flexible on this one so we can try to out smart the weather. If the weather cooperates we'll run on Sunday, 18 February. If, by the 11th it looks like the weather wont cooperate, we'll push the drive back to the 25th. Whichever day we go, we'll be running Hwy 101 from Hoodsport to Quilcene. In and of itself this is a really short run, so I plan on tossing a run into the forest in the mix.

The Particulars

This is a run we tried in November, but we struggled with an absolute down-pour, making the drive a little more stressful and less fun than usual, and limiting the turn out.

The Meeting

Final RV point of Potlach State Park (yes I'm fond of meeting at Parks, they attract less attention).

http://www.parks.wa.gov/parkpage.asp...dpark=Potlatch

Meet time will be around 10:00 with a departure around 11:00 as usual. Located 12 miles north of Shelton, Wash., on the state's western side. From Shelton: Drive twelve miles north on U.S. Hwy. 101 to park entrance. From Hoodsport: Drive three miles south on U.S. Hwy. 101 to park entrance.

The Drive

The Food

Last time we tried this, we visited the A&W in Poulsbo. Unfortunately, they just serve Gas Station hamburgers and pour the Root Beer into paper cups. Please, if you someplace in Poulsbo, Kingston, or on Bain Bridge Island please let me know.

Hey Kristopher,

I should be able to make this one. Sorry about missing the Jan run, but I was busy resurrecting a friends gen 2 RX7. The new clutch install took a little longer than anticipated (getting a tranny out with only jack stands can be a pain) and ended up running into Sunday. For those of you that missed this drive the first time, there are some killer curves that our 8's make sweet love to (and that was in pouring rain...imagine what it will be like dry!). Thanks again for organizing these drives Kristopher (and by the way I got the Racing Beat sways in and they make a HUGE difference in the corners)

I completely feel your pain. I changed Rose's clutch about 5 years ago, and still remember the trouble. I did have a transmission jack, which the tranny fell off of. I caught it (slowed it down with my hands and landed it on my chest). I finally wound up taking her to Hayes (before the went completely bad) to have the transmission re-installed.

You're making me jealous. I still have springs sitting on my deck, and want to get those in before I do any other suspension work, but finding time has been difficult.

I'll have to get back to you on whether or not I can make this one. I'm having surgery on my arm/elbow this Thursday, so my arm may not be up to it by then.

The 18th is my B-Day - and I'm committed for a dinner at Terra Blanca Winery in Benton City Saturday night. Friday night we get to sample the new Onyx - YUMMY

So, unless you change dates - I will miss yet another one.

I'll have to play it by ear a bit. If it's on the 25th I won't be able to make it because we're moving into our new house!!

If it's on the 18th we may be packing up so it may depend. I definitely want to go if we can sneak away.

Priorities, man. Go for a drive and stay up late packing boxes, or stay home and stay up late packing boxes. You know you'll be packing boxes on the morning of the 25th either way.

According to the 7 day forecasts, the weather should be clearing by next Sunday, so I think we should plan on keeping that date. Too bad we haven't had a typical February, but I don't think we'll gain anything by pushing back to the 25th.

Again, this drive is on for the 18th.

Do you take RX-4s? It's... sort of like an RX-8

We take anything. It's about the driving more than the car. But an RX-4 would definitely be very cool. One of the early ancestors to the RX-8.

Well, I'm definitely out. I went in for my postop followup to get my stitches out yesterday. I'm still not cleared to drive until at least the 26th when I go back in for another followup. I miss my car so much I went and sat in it yesterday. LOL

I wish my arm was better sooner. It's totally bruised up and stiff and sore, but my nerve symptoms seem improved, at least so far. I want to go, but I can't do that much driving because my arm is too weak. As it was, my arm was totally killing me partway through the last one, which was one of the reasons I left early. Partway back home I couldn't use my arm at all and just had to rest it on my lap. It was so bad I was actually going to let Robbie drive except that he was sleeping again and I didn't want the extra stress of him driving my car while sleepy.

Well, you've got, like, four days to feel better. I won't tell the doctor if you don't.

Not sure if I'll be able to make it or not - might be on a 3200 mile cross country road trip

Ok, I'm stumped. I don't know where Shelton or Hoodport are, I've no idea where we're talking about meeting, or if I have any prayer of being there by 10am. You'd think the park's driving directions would include a *map*, but NOOOOOOOOOOOO....

Anyway, help?
