Dynamat

Hi ,

Anybody in the Puget Sound area installed this (or its equivalent)? If so, does anyone out here sells the stuff? Your info will be greatly appreciated.

I saw some in the car stereo section at Fry's in Renton. I don't recall if it was Dynamat brand or a knock-off.

Go look for it in ebay. They have great prices there. It's about 1/2 of retail.

Where do people recomend installing Dynamat? I know it is for sound isulation, but if I could make my 8 quieter inside by using this in the right locations I am going to pick me up some...

I am going to do the door panels first. And later, if I have some time, I will try the floor and trunk.

Does anyone out in the Eastside area (Redmond) removed the door panel?

Buy peel & seal, it's the same exact thing and is cheaper. You can get it at ABC supply depo or something like that, can't remember the exact name of the place. But it's roofing material, get the kind that is tar with aluminum backing. It's also extremely cheaper than any of that "name brand' bs out there that just has a Brand Name stamp on it.

I installed it on my last car and it quieted the sound.
I had a hard time with the chemical-rubber smell
that never really went away...

How heavy is this stuff? The stuff from fatmat or the likes look pretty light. Just curious. I don't want my car smelling like tar/rubber.

Not very heavy at all. My friend and I did a 96 mustang with 2 small rolls and the stuff weighed maybe like 10 lbs all together.

Nope, don't plan on it. The 8 is incredibly quiet compared to my 7 that I REMOVED the stock sound deadening tar from so I'm okay. My plan is to take weight off the 8, not add any :p

I couldn't find 'Peel & Seal' at Home Depot or Lowes. I found something similar, and had a couple of questions:

1. The stuff I found was tar with foil backing, and was really only about 1mm thick total. Is this about the right thickness, or should I look for something else?

2. This same stuff was only in rolls of 6" wide. That seems like it would be a PITA to work with - any chance of finding it 12" - 18" wide?

The stuff my friend and I used was a bit thicker than that.

It was 12" *I think* but might've only been 6", can't remember.

It is not available from normal hardware stores that I've ever seen, we got it from ABC supply co. in Everett.

ABC Supply Co Inc Siding Materials
Roofing Materials
2315 W Casino Rd
Everett, WA 98201 - 3808

Just call and make sure they still carry it and you can ask about sizes. It's technically roofing material but is the same stuff.

I'm going to add this also, but I'm just going to do the trunk and front doors only. Someone mentioned not to remove the plastic under the door panels, is this right? They said to just peel and stick right over the plastic that is there.
