Cracked windshield. Where should I go?
I was going to get some fast food tonight, noticed my windshield was covered in ice and so I let the car warm up. As it warmed up I noticed that I had a crack in the windshield that I didn't notice was there earlier in the day... not sure if the ice could have caused it or if I just hadn't noticed it earlier...
What do I do? Is this something that I can/should get replaced at the dealer? or do you guys have any recommendations as to where to get it replaced. The crack is about a foot long and it stems from the drivers side toward the center of the windshield so it is definetly noticable...
I would need to get it repalced for sure. I just need to know which places to avoid and if I should just get it done at a dealer or not.
My car is still under warrenty however I don't think it would cover something like this...

The warranty will not cover this unless it can be proven the glass was defective. Depending on your insurance deductible you can go through them or find a auto glass shop. The price range can be from $400-$800. Be sure to mention if your rear view mirror has the auto dim, that seems to be important.

In Florida it is deemed a saftey issue and your insurance MUST cover it for free at no cost to you at all. They will even come to your house and do the install. Had to do that to my daughters car about two years ago. Check with your insurance company.

Most full coverage policies (maybe all) in Washington cover windshield replacement. Talk to you insurance company first.
You probably had a small chip you didn't notice. Water got in there, and as it froze, it expanded and cracked your windshield.

Call your insurance company. Mine cracked and I had to only pay my $250 deductible. I know if I didn't go through my insurance company I would have had to pay around $450 to $500 to get it replaced on my own.

$500 deductable
I checked with my insurance agent and he said my comprehensive deductable is $500 bucks!
I was kind of looking for a reccomendation on where to go(which replacement company I should use), I don't think I'll go through insurance on this one unless the glass company will wave the deductable. Seems unlikely around here...
The insurance company says the would pay for a repair however, it is a crack this is something I'm not about to try to "repair" it should be replaced.
I don't want a POS windsheild, I want to make sure it is a good one, so I'm really asking which local company should I have do the replacement.

Could you tell a POS windshield if you saw one?? Not really the key thing is how the windshield is installed. If you go with a nationwide chain their warranty should be better than a local shop. But if the Nationwide Chain’s installer does a crappy job you will be dealing with them more than if you found a good local installer. There are tips online such as THIS on what to look out for. Shop around when I had to get new glass the price range was wide.

when the price of the glass is less, or close to your deductible. Now chips are something else. Many will pay to have a chip filled.

Power!!
State Farm replaced the windshield in our Mazda3 without a deductible. I have a $250 comprehensive deductible and they have a glass waiver that is $0 deductible so we paid nothing.
Did you specifically ask about windshield replacement? In the 5 states I have had to replace my windshield in I have never had to pay for it out of pocket. Insurance has always covered it.
Also if they can repair it then repair it. Most of the time they can only repair small holes and they can't repair cracks.

My insurance refered me to Diamond Auto Glass. They came to my house with the new windshield and finished installing it after about 25 to 30 minutes. I have no complaints and came with a very good warranty from them.
