Center Dash Console Squeak

Wondering if any of you have had a fix to this. I started having a chirpiing or "cricket" noise coming from the center console on the dash.

I've had it in the dealership probably 7 times at least for this... They fixed it once, then needed to replace the heater control unit, and it returned... It's been in twice since then. Last time, in for 4 days, (over the weekend) NEW heater control unit and the squeak is back.

They've been great at the dealership, putting new padding in the upper part, working on it, but have yet to fix the problem.

Ideas?

Thanks,

Paul

We found it in Jisoo27's car. If you press on the piano black on the left edge, just below the CD slot, it goes away in his car. If you can make it squeak on demand, have a passenger start pressing around the edges until they find a spot that makes the squeak go away. You have to press pretty hard, but hopefully that will help you find it. It's probably lower on yours, 'cause it came after they replaced the climate controls.

It's jisoo26....26!!! rofl

Yeah it's in the upper left corner of the center console just below the left AC vent...if I press down on the plastic part of the dash right next to the piano black plastic, the cricket chirping goes away. Hopefully Lee Johnson can put in a lil' padding to make it go away.

chirp

I found out it was the cd player, just needed to be tightened in... It does it sometimes now, much less, and is no big deal.

I took it to the dealership. They put in some extra padding but the chirp came back...it's especially apparent when it's cold. It looks like it comes from somewhere other than around the center console...I can't find it though. I wonder if it's actually *inside* the dash?

pfbaseball if you're around Seattle maybe we should get together and try to track this friggin' thing down...it driving me nuts

Dunno if anyone's still interested in this...

Sound seems to travel funny inside the RX8 cabin. I drove around for half an hour with my brother to try and track down this damn chirping noise. He swears that it's eminating from up on top of the center console (where the NAV would be) back towards the windshield. We both believe it's somewhere inside the dash...away from any exterior parts where one can press by hand to make it go away.

I have a better description for this "chirp" sound....it's rather a high pitched jingle...like a small washer rattling loose because the screw hasn't been tightened down all the way.

Mine's at Lee Johnson right now staying over night. They have an older tech there (Gary) who's fixed squeaks and rattles in all sorts of Mazdas, so I'm crossing my fingers that he can track it down and finally end the insanity.

I've had a chirping noise coming from the gauge cluster. I think it's a TSB now.

Interesting, I don't know about the VIN but my car's a 2005 and obviously produced before 2/2/2006. I'll have to give the dealership a ring and see if they've seen this. Nice catch!

IT'S FIXED! It's the audio unit. The tech tightened every single screw on that audio unit cage. So glad the annoying squeak is gone!
