OR Best Driving Roads - Portland Area

Looking for some really good driving roads in the Portland area. Used to live in Central Oregon and we had loads of places where you could just go drive and enjoy the weather. Now that I live in Portland I am looking for some roads in this area. What I am looking for is decent pavement, low traffic, technical corners, dips, hills etc, and great scenery is a plus. With the weather getting nice out I want to be able to enjoy a beautiful day with the wife. Any ideas? Let me know. Thanks

Lots of great roads. Mt St. Helens run is awesome. Some decent roads heading out to the coast. German Town Rd. Bible Creek Rd. You going to the BBQ Dyno meet next Saturday? There may be a drive later in the day. I'm sure other there will know lots of roads.

Look up Rocky Point Rd in Scappoose. There's a maze of twisty roads in there, I don't remember the exact route. We drove them in the dark with someone who knew the area so we were just following. There's just an amazing amount of corners on those roads.

I drove this recently and definitely some nice twisty roads. Too bad there are a few spots with lots of gravel that had me worried about getting chips with the new lip.

between scappoose, and a little west of st helens, there are a ton of really windy roads up in the hills. your right about rocky mountain road. its very windy...but there is loose gravel in some places. cornelius pass is always a lot of fun...if you can manage to not hit any traffic. which is very rare

Question for the Portland guys, what exactly are those roads for? They sort of wind around in a big web that leads to where? It would make sense if they were logging roads or something, but in that case why are they paved? It's as if they put them there for your enjoyment...

there is a ton a little hole in the wall town/villages. i'm pretty sure they are old logging roads. but man they are fun. if anyone wants to hit them up, PM me. just drive up there and get lost, you'll have fun. just make sure you bring your gps. also, i heard there is alot of geo caching up in that area too if thats something youre into

Doing good! The reman is running great still. I do need to get my alignment taken care of, and I need to do something about my warped brake rotors. I also noticed yesterday my tires are in to the wear bars now. I guess I need to start shoveling some $$ towards the 8 now that my motorcycle expenses are caught up.

I should have taken this route, Old German Town Road looks like it has a few more curves, and might not have as many cars.

Out by where I live there are some windy roads. Most of them aren't very long and require lots of turning off onto other roads, but some are really good, others not quite so much. A lot of them are mainly just old logging roads. I live between Oregon City and Molalla, so it's rural also. I decided to do this one day when I was bored and ended up getting lost. Oops. I told my GPS I wanted to go home, but apparently several of the roads I took weren't in the map. LOL

Otherwise, I agree with the others and Germantown Road is a good one.

+1

some of the turns get sharper as you go through them. and also, when you get closer to highway 30 and the st johns bridge, pedestrians like to walk on german town rd. not sure why, seeing as there is no shoulder. ther emust be some hiking trails nearby. some guy on foot swung a walking stick at my car as i rounded one of the tighter turns a few weeks ago. i wasnt even going fast, cuz i was in a line of cars...and this guy would have gotten hurt bad if his stick had hit my windshield. luckily it didnt!
