That would be great news! If that doesn’t work out here’s an R3 with 48k that looks like a great candidate: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...3974407458276/

Just heard back from Andrew. He is looking into changing it up a little and going with a Ford 8.8 diff instead of the camaro. And I was told they are adding to the track package they presently have…no details concerning that.

Did he say why? Availability? Or something else?

The Ford 8.8 is a lighter, stronger with a better positive traction set up than the camaro. Even some camaro owners that mod their cars do this.

There are more available options, for sure.

Make sure you get the OS Giken lsd rather than one of the typical muscle car type. Because I know you still live in the 60’s

Just posting to say I am still wanting this setup. I am not giving up on this. Andrew is backed up for a year or so in doing the conversions themselves, but he can provide the kits at anytime. I do have an excellent person in the Atlanta area that is willing to look into this swap…Charlie at Mazcare. No hard decisions made yet but it is closer. I am struggling in wanting a little more power than what the oem lfx offers….I really want 350–375 rwhp and that means FI. It seems the lfx engine has fairly small exhaust ports and the camshafts have short durations of intake and exhaust in comparison to some other engines. At one point there were some aftermarket cams available from a company called Mace, but tuning issues arose so without FI it is going to be a little difficult to get to the level I would like to have. How to fit an overkill supercharger is still a mystery but I believe it is possible if the big fuse box is relocated. I have even explored to a limited degree dry slumping the engine.

By the time you go through with the hassle of the LFX swap + FI, you're probably at the weight, cost, and well above the complexity of an LS swap, which is like the king of 350-375whp.

You need to come drive my turbo Renesis if 350-375 is all you want.

100% correct. My LS1 swapped RX8 made a genuine 392whp NA with just a mild cam, decent exhaust and tune. Same motor with a baby turbo bolted bolted at the rear it now makes 550whp/590ftlbs on low boost. Sounds like you're taking the hard road to make less power than what a basic LS swap does....

I agree if you want more power your better of with an ls if it’s just a fun toy. If you can be happy with 300-325 hp that you can beat the ever living **** out of over and over the lfx is pretty sweet. The swap is very well documented so should be easy for any shop to follow.

power to weight you would be pretty similar to a v8 Camaro with the lfx rx8. It’s decent.

still love mine, wouldn’t choose differently.

As a lot of you know I drove a 300 rwhp car for a few years and that power level is great. It does really change the car’s dynamics. I have not had the opportunity to ride or drive the lfx rx8 yet but I suspect that the increased torque the v6 brings to the table will also have an affect on the dynamics. This increased torque and the gearing options this package offers may be enough? FI may not be needed? But, I do like FI🙂.
Brettus, It would be really cool to experience your car. Wish that could happen!
Rx0004…sounds like you have a beast! Bet you have a grin on your face every time you get behind the wheel.

Thanks. Yes, it's a beast. It's docile enough that it quietly chugs along in any gear in traffic, and with so much torque available even off boost it's easy to drive. I'm running a BW369 turbo, and even rear mounted there's very little lag. Running 275 semi slick rear tyres, wheel spin is an issue in 2nd and through 3rd gear.

There are options to upgrade the internals of the LFX, whether aftermarket or transplanted from an LF4. People already make well north of 300 whp with bolt ons and e85. I know Edelbrock makes a positive displacement SC for the LGX, haven't looked if they have one for the LFX but it would certainly help with packaging vs a centrifugal (though I would go with the Overkill Tracy Lewis offering if I were getting a kit).

The extra 2 cylinders on the LS has a larger effect on weight balance. Unless you want a hole in the firewall, the v8 is going to hang well over the front wheel centerline. The LFX fits better and doesn't require touching the firewall. The LGX is able to sit even further back because the HPFP on the back of the motor was moved to the 1-3-5 cylinder side.

I guess the argument really boils down to what the intended driving characteristics are since the power aspect is pretty clear cut between the two options. Certainly glad I went with Andrew for my swap, the form fit and finish is impeccable.

I always see the 300whp number thrown around with the LFX but there seem to be very very few Camaro owners actually getting that number. Plenty in the 280-290whp range, and lots of conjecture about "probably that would maybe get you 300whp" but no dynos.

Yes, that's the same argument rotary fans make against any piston engine swap - show me some data demonstrating slower lap times or some kind of objective, quantitative reduction in performance and I'll start listening.

"Oh the balance isn't as good." "Oh it's just so lumbery." "Oh the turn in isn't as sharp."

My rear mounted turbo LS1 swapped RX8 is within 20lbs between the front and rear. I suspect that's even more balanced than a factory vehicle.....

Quinn from the slip angle on youtube covers this. He goes into great detail driving the LFX swapped 8 and running it on a timed course, his later videos show all the times stacked up at the end of the video. I remember the LFX swapped 8 having penske custom valved dampers specifically for the lfx swap which are like a 5-6K upgrade, don't remember what tires the LFX swapped 8 has, but Quinn is using daily driver junk tires, and he doesn't have nearly as nice dampers as the penske's. On the timed course I believe Quinn's tuned 8 was about a second slower than the LFX swapped 8 over the course of 40-45 seconds/lap.

Weight balance clearly matters, but center of gravity is something that people always forget. Its partly why chassis like the rx8 and the GR86's feel so good at turn in, and probably where Quinn's complaints stem from even though that LFX 8 is likely corner balanced.

That being said, every video I have seen of an LFX swapped rx8 on the track has nothing but praise sung about it

@olddragger Where do you live? Tuning those LFX Mace cams is certainly a challenge from what I have read, but there are successful people out there if you dig hard enough. Unfortunately I have not looked into remote tuning options, so this is an issue I have had in the back of my mind as well since we don't have any "legendary" tuners up here in NH for V6 engines with complex variable valve timing.
