MS3 swap yet?

sorry if this is in the wrong section, since i'm just thinking out loud, i'm not sure where it should go.

anyways, has anyone ever done a Mazdaspeed 3/6 engine swap into an Rx8?

seems like a fairly bolt on way to do 300hp/300lbs/ft/28mpg in an Rx8, with the potential for being emissions legal.

getting it into the car should be straightforward, you can use the NC miata 6 speed, which is the S2 Rx8 trans with a piston bellhousing. if needed the Miata block and oil pan are RWD, and should accommodate the MS3 head/turbo etc.

ideally the electronics are similar enough it would just be a matter of figuring out which harness(es) to use...

anyone?

Doesn't the engine rotate the wrong way? And won't the TB be pointing at the firewall?

The tuberculosis is always pointed the wrong way.

But that's a big plus, 9k. With the throttle body pointed backwards, it'd be real easy to run the intake tube to the heater blower and get electric supercharging. No need for intercooling, just turn on the A/C!

Plus I don't think it would fit. At the rear of the head is a high pressure fuel pump for the direct injection and I know on the Miata the firewall would have to notched because of that so I doubt it would fit in a 8. The height may also be an issue. Either way it's a dumb swap, Disi engines at high HP levels blow pretty easy. Not worth the money or the trouble when I could slap in a 400WHP REW.

On that note, I'm gonna go ahead and suggest a Hemi. Torque for days.

I solved your issue. The throttle body on the Hemi would face the right way.

Yeah we would just need a steel plate to protect the oil pan from speed bumps,

This theoretical car is on 22s, so it has plenty of ghetto clearance.

As long as you are doing a ms3 swap may as well change it to wrong wheel drive.

Why stop there when you could have an MS6 AWD swap?

wait you're saying an FD engine is more reliable than a piston engine

if anyone reads this they are going to think you're nuts!

With enough $$ anything is possible.

An FD engine is going to get you 400 HP, maybe 21 MPG highway and 15 city (sound familiar) and then when you really get into it, 5 MPG.

Then you have to deal with turbo rotary problems, heat being the biggest one.

I like the idea of a MS3 engine made to fit.

biggest problem with the FD engine is that there is no way to register it, even if it passes smog its illegal...

The MZR-L3T has it's own share of problems unless left completely stock so what's the point. Sure this swap could be done with enough money and a talented fabricator.

It was even a challenge with the mazdaspeed 5

Return of the Boss Wagon: Mazdaspeed 5 - Project Car - Car and Driver

So not is it only an engine/trans/bell housing issue but you have to re do the dash just to fit the MS3 cluster, Now yes it would be amazing swap but easy in anyway what so ever?

Hell **** **** no.

Same here, I am leaving my 8 as stock as possible.

The REW swap is a fun swap, I used to have a thread on my build over on NP, I pointed a lot of people to it over the years. Sadly, in the last year or so, Scott decided to delete the thread, or NP's data base was corrupted and it is gone now. I just had a member here ask me about my build on my car and when I went to link him the thread, it was gone.

Someday I will have to sit down and rewrite the swap story over again, I still have all he pictures saved from it.
