lol.

Which would I hate more? LS1, duh. It has pushrods, welcome to the 1920's.

the_duke313 04-03-2008 08:55 PM

2jz just seem to be overated.. i meen obviously they make a shit load of power, but........

Rootski 04-03-2008 11:12 PM

2JZ's are an overrated crap-tastic motor, it gets my vote. "But Rootski, it's so tough you can boost the hell out of it" Yeah, cement is tough too, but that doesn't make it good. The powerband is smaller than my bank account.

LS1's at least make decent power, even if it is kind of a cop-out. Swapping an LS1 is like admitting to the world "I fail at rotaries."

LiL BenNy 04-04-2008 12:24 AM

lol what does everyone hate about the 2jz so much? i personally like the engine but hate supras lol...

im surprised people arent favoring the 2jz to keep it at least "Japanese"

kersh4w 04-04-2008 12:29 AM

2jz ftl.

LionZoo 04-04-2008 12:34 AM

I gotta say I've developed a hatred for the LS series engines simply because most American motor fans seem to think they're the second coming of God or something. Yes I know they're technically wonderful; compact, powerful, and tuneable. However, when every Chevy/pushrod/American fanboi ends every argument with, "The Evo's engine isn't as good as the Corvette because the LS1/2/7 is powerful and can be tuned easily" or "Pushrods are the way to go and superior to other engine configurations because of the LS-series" you start to get the feeling that enough is enough.

2jz FTMFW!

LS1 can suck a big fat one!

What do a 400whp, a 600whp, and an 800whp Supra have in common?

12 second quarter mile times.

Edit for ranting:

So the 2JZ can put up with a lot of boost. That's good. But 2JZ's that put down the big numbers do so with an oversized turbo. It's far too big for the engine and that 1,000 hp is in the last 5 rpm. Pretty useless in my book. Yes, it's really cool on the highway, but it won't perform at the track.

I won't argue that pushrods are OLD technology, and that's not why I enjoy the LS series engines. They are very flexible and can make great power in whatever way you want.

500whp N/A? Yep.
300 shots of N20? Yep.
LS1 + forged internals + boost = lots of USEABLE power. :)

r0tor 04-04-2008 12:16 PM

the LS engines are compact, light, and can produce ridiculous amounts of power with or without boost and actually sound good... the dyno queen engine has none of these traits

Why does everyone hate it? The real question is why does anyone like it? It's very heavy and very long. This isn't porn therefore these are negative traits. It was so bad that Toyota themselves couldn't make it be a good candidate for forced induction. I know some Supra owner out there will instantly have their thong get completely surrounded by their tightly clinched sphincter if they ever see this statement but it's true. Toyota contracted it's development out to the only people that could make a decent inline 6 and that was the Germans. Yes Toyota contracted the 2JZ-GTE to a German company because it wasn't good enough and they couldn't fix it on their own! Wow!

Yes they are tough. Concrete is tough too. So what! This means that they can be boosted to stratospheric heights which is great for internet dyno racing. Unfortunately the average powerband of a poorly running Geo metro combined with the top end power of a large airliner don't add up to a great driving or performing engine. After a half an hour of turbo lag and once you top 80 mph, they absolutely scream and will slam you back in your seat harder than a rocket launch. Unfortunately before this happens you've got the performance of the average econobox without the nice mileage benefits. If huge power potential from a powerband that is 4 rpm wide is your thing, and you love having a gigantic heavy piece of engine under your hood, it's a beautiful thing.

The LS1 is indeed old pushrod technology. However it's performance can't be denied. No you actually can't get 1000 hp out of a stock bottom end. You do have to strengthen it unlike the 2JZ. However the engine is all aluminum and very light for it's size. It would also be easier to package under a hood. Parts are easily available and the engine is relatively cheap due to it's ease of availability. You can actually get 500 hp and still have a powerband as wide as the average continent. Is it the world's most advance dual overhead electromagnetic valve actuated, variable compression ratio, unlimited lift and timing, direct injected wtfbbq idk my bff Jill engine out there? Nope. But it works and does it well.

Keep in mind I am against removing a rotary to install a piston engine however if the choice is between the 2JZ and the LS1, it's a no brainer.

2JZ's are better. It's just a slow 3550 lb. car. :uhh:
