Like the rest of America? What does that mean. I am okay with a language barrier, I was just wondering why your grammar was so bad. And I know what hex files are..........You are still missing the point.

Someone mentioned the trans strength of the 8. I know it's a fairly week trans. I didn't have any trouble pulling it out by hand from under the car. I don't see it lasting behind a v6 or turbo 13b let alone a turbo 20b. I LOVE the sound of NA bridgeport 20b engines by the way.

The Solstice trans is the AR-5 which is the updated version of the R154. I've heard it shifts more like the W58 but has the strength of the R154. Double cone synchros or something like that. In the Solstice, they bolt up LSx engines to it without any issues. Needless to say I'm so stoked about finding a new one for $500. All I can do is stare at it. >.<
The 8's trans would still be usable, it's probably not ideal though.

And yes by my bare hands.want a back rub too since your fascinated with the bareness of hands?
You are correct, if I was an expert fabricator, engine builder, turbo builder, tuner, and I had a facility to assemble and balance engine and turbine assemblies my build would have gone a lot faster.

Back rubs? Bareness of hands? Ah yes, you must be European.

This is more epic then Faith no More...

The Isuzu PP is a pull type and the Solstice PP is a push type. So I started looking up flywheels to see if anything else would fit or if another PP would fit the Isuzu flywheel. Fidanza makes an aluminum flywheel for the 6VE1. #198261.

It also fits the following...

82-89 Skylark
82-88 Cimarron
87-96 Beretta
82-02 Cavalier
87-88 Celebrity
87-96 Corsica
94-03 S-10
94-02 Passport
98-2000 Amigo
96-2000 Hombre
91-94 1 ton pickup v6
91-04 Rodeo
89-02 Trooper
88-89 Cutlass Supreme
82-88 Firenza
87-88 6000
85-88 Fiero
88-90 Grand Prix
85-86 Sunbird
91-94 Sunbird
95-02 Sunfire
87-93 Tempest

The Isuzu engine had the GM v6 bolt pattern and apparently has a pretty standard GM crank bolt pattern and 122 tooth flywheel. A GM 3100, for example, is in many of the cars listed above. This is just too cool. Parts will be CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP. I have clutch options coming out of my *** now and with the internal slave cylinder in the Solstice, I can space it as needed to contact the pressure plate. I now have aftermarket pressure plate options too. EPIC WIN!

EDIT - Something must be wrong in the application chart because the GM v6 is a 6-bolt flywheel and Isuzu is 8-bolt. Researching...

Money is attainable, time is not.
Time is fleeting and precious.
This project seems like an enormous time suck.
Just sayin.

How do you figure that @ Cajun ? The man is still in the planning stages ,sorting which parts he can use, what will fit what, and I'm guessing he doesn't have an endless budget. Kicker appears to be a decent bloke, taking his time to share this swap and he takes all the crap other members dish out, without firing back with insults. I find this thread very interesting and wish him all the best in his endeavour .

Hello,
I'm just making an observation. I don't really care what people do with their time as long as they are not impacting others.
Just because something can be done doesn't mean it should be done.
Your response is an adequate enough reason for what I said.
Motion does not always equal progress.
I like my 8 as is, stock, except now catless. Seems like a waste of a nice car, but who am I to judge?
I'm simply embracing the forum aspect of this, the exchange of thoughts and ideas.
I never intended to offend anyone. It's my opinion and I won't sway anyone.
Whatever creams your Twinkie.

I have a lead on a low mile '02 Passport engine for under a grand. It's a few miles from the guy I bought the trans from. I must be in the twilight zone over here.

No solid news on the flywheel yet. Fidanza's part number shows it fits the Isuzu v6 -and- fits some GM engines. I know for a fact the bolt patterns are different. I called Fidanza and they are looking into it. If their flywheel does fit the Isuzu that's good news because it's easy to drill an aluminum flywheel for a different pressure plate. I did verify that the Isuzu v6 is internally balanced so if Fidanza's catalog is wrong I'm more likely to find an alternative.

I forgot if I mentioned why this flywheel is important. Isuzu uses a pull-type pressure plate and the Solstice uses a push-type with an internal slave cylinder. Internal slaves are much more forgiving to variations and easily shimmed if need be but it may not be easy to find a push-type pressure plate to fit the Isuzu flywheel.

You can't just "drill" a flywheel. you need it to be balanced!
