We have some 600HP 2 rotors...and a lot of 3 rotors that come into the shop that make that kind of power.

They are far from Dyno Queens

And a 1000+ HP drag car that we are hoping will be in low 7's this spring

Makes a lot of 1000HP LSX American muscle drag cars look stupid slow

dannobre 12-17-2014 06:17 PM

I laugh at the expected parts bills for some of these swaps......

My fittings bill at wholesale for my oil system and fuel system...and tranny and diff oil coolers was over 2 Grand

I just go to my hydraulic guy and tell him what size fittings I want and what ever he's got that works I'll take lol AN, FLARE, Pressure fittings what ever gets the job done,,,, hell i get them to make my stainless steel lines for brakes $20 each and the clutch line was longer $35 lol

but if your going for looks I guess then definatly those little red and blue fittings are sexy,

Lol, i will admit 2 grand is an awful lot on fittings, but just anything that works is a bit ridiculous. Come on at least use the same type of fittings.

Your argument isn't valid.

Nothing involved in a swap is ever sensible. The whole point of a swap is to do something that isn't sensible.

a rear sump oil pan for my 1jz is $1400 at the Lexus stealership.......... = ridiculous
a rear sump oil pan on ebay averages to be $300 to $500 = reasonable but out of my budget
modifying the OEM front sump to rear sump has costed me $78 in material and about 2 hours 3 if you count getting materials/dicking around

my whole point is why spend $5000 putting in a renny when you can spend $5000 on a reliable more powerful motor that can be daily'd without needing a rebuild/swap after 110,000km

sensible spend the money once,

this exhaust is 3" stainless steel headers back I paid $148 CAD tax in. and $20 for electrodes

Attachment 220339

how much was your exhaust?

RIWWP 12-17-2014 07:30 PM

It isn't sensible to believe your cost numbers. History has proven that you are believing a pipe dream. If it was really that simple, we would have plenty of these rolling around.

Or do you think you are the first person to ever come along in 10-12 years of people talking swaps with the ability to do it?

Joker_andthe_thief 12-17-2014 07:35 PM

it's been done alot in places like Pakistan and Eastern Europe because In those countries they understand value, diy and making it work lol

Joker_andthe_thief 12-17-2014 07:37 PM

hell me and my bro bought a used hoist from the 80's for $800 and installed it our selves

RIWWP 12-17-2014 07:38 PM

Actually, it's been "done" in Pakistan because they don't have emissions controls and can rip out every single piece of electronics in the car. Try that in the US or Canada and see how far you get. Those Pakistani swaps don't qualify as 'complete'.

Joker_andthe_thief 12-17-2014 07:47 PM

I have a guy who for $200 take a pic of your car and plate then straps in his Toyota sienna and presto emissions valid go collect sticker all the guys running... "habibituned" all have punched cat's, and the police cant tell the difference because you can see it's there but you can't know its hallow, emmisions isn't the issue at all

it's spending money for the sake of spending money

I know they exist, and mainly in the drag scene but they are extremely rare. The idea that any of the REW swapped RX-8's will be making that kind of power is just crazy and if they do, it will be short lived. And we are not seeing any REW powered (or LS powered) RX-8's running really fast 1/4 miles times, mile times, etc.

And that kind of power is not needed so I totally understand why people do the swap, I have researched it myself. But, if I did do it, I would not be unrealistic about what an REW swapped RX-8 is. A 400-450WHP Rx-8 isn't going to beat much at our grudge match nights.

Hey look, another short cut to try to justify an incomplete swap being called "complete"...

You are on a roll buddy.

Joker_andthe_thief 12-17-2014 07:58 PM

your un-beliveable like, whats your definition of a complete swap?
mine is as follows
1. motor must be mounted
2. motor tranny must drive the car
3. no more gremlins "related to swap" ie broken sensors, sensors forgotten or not known about
4. your able to use it as a solid platform to build upon.

that's it forget emissions and that obd2 crap, the gov'nt is there to regulate people who want to be regulated,,,,

also lol I get fake safeties for $70 lol my 240 was safety'd and that afternoon lost my brake lines lol made it home repaired them

RIWWP 12-17-2014 08:03 PM

...

At every post you illustrate how you are willing to cut corners (cheap fitting, bribing emissions and safety inspectors, etc...). Just because you CAN bribe them doesn't magically make your swap "complete" or make it "not a cut corner".

Again, your argument is completely invalid, and you are proving my point.

Thanks. I guess.

Stay in Canada please.

I'm enjoying myself. The only way you can butthurt me apparently is driving your car with failing brakes down here and following me around.

You are completely missing the point though so ... meh :dunno: You are the only one that doesn't see it, and as long as you don't kill anyone else from taking safety shortcuts, no one else has to deal with the costs or consequences.

Joker_andthe_thief 12-17-2014 08:18 PM

my point being for people on a budget it can be done a swap can be daily drivable for $5000

ps with the 240 that was the day after I took ownership and i had to get to work the next day bought a 25ft spool of treated brake line and replaced all the way from abs block to caliper all four brakes total cost was around $40

And you seem to be missing the point that if it was really that easy, there would be a lot of people doing it. And there aren't.

People have been claiming cheap swaps since 2003. What are they missing? What makes you so much better than they?

Seriously. Answer that. Do you really believe you are the first of thousands that can do it cheaply?
