2004 Rx-8 2JZ NA-T SWAP

Starting out i bought a 04 red rx-8 with bad engine 96,000 miles
Decided i wanted to do a 2jz swap so here i went.
Bought my engine out of a wrecked car for 600 bucks.

engine mods as of now are:
  • Borg Warner S366 turbo with the .91 housing
  • 50mm hks style wastegate drift motion
  • 2jzge na-t turbo manifold
  • driftmotion 2jzge 14mm fuel rail
  • 14mm smartfire 1000cc injectors (high impedence)
  • ls (d585) coil swap
  • oem 2jzgte head gasket
  • arp head studs
  • gates racing timing belt
  • all new timing components
  • modded the stock throttle body to open all the way instead of half way so it will support my standalone (had to do this to get rid of the half drive-by-wire and half fly-by wire)
Engine Management:
  • Megasquirt 3 with the expansion board (ms3x)
  • tuning will be done mostly by me some on the dyno
Fuel system:
  • A1000 fuel pump
  • Custom made surge tank with -10 feed and -6 return
  • sx performance regulator
  • aeromotive fuel filter
  • driftmotion 2jzge 14mm fuel rail

Steering Rack:
  • I will be using a mustang rack with custom mounts made

Drivetrain:
  • Tko 600 new that i already had
  • 05 Explorer 8.8 Irs lsd diff with 3.55 gears
  • mounts were custom made by me
As for the gauges i decided to mod my own gauges to fit in the stock cluster
next post is pics

Out of curiousity, why not 2JZ turbo from the start? Overall, keep the good work. Thumbs up

I went with the name engine because there easier to find and was way cheaper even though I'm now upgrading the internals for my own doing but mainly just ended up getting it way cheaper than a GTE

Matthunter,
Are you planning to re-use the front anti roll bar? I couldnt installed back to my car due to the spacing from the conversion. It will be interesting to know if you plan to install back. If not, are you going to modify the bar?

Thanks

How low does your sway bar have to be?

this is where mine sits to clear the engine, I had to get creative with links, but its setup now and works excellent.

some more stuff i ended up doing recently finally got the engine back together with the wiseco pistons and manley rods decided to change tranny setups so i'm ending up going with a 300zx transmission, got the new steering rack mounted, that's really about all there is to update so far
next i need to mount the engine and tranny and make a driveshaft
figure out a new way to mount the stock fuse box or relocate it (not really sure i want to relocate seems like alot of soldering lol)
mount intercooler
buy custom axles for the 8.8 diff
wire the engine and mount the megasquirt 3
i'm sure there is more but that's all i can think of at the moment

Progress looks great!!! I used PST driveline in florida to make a driveshaft for my car, insanely quick turnaround and great price!

so as of now i got my steering shaft all mounted up tranny mounts welding in the car and tranny mount made, lots more parts lol.
Decided to swap what transmission i would be using and picked up a transmission off craigslist for 200 out of a wrecked 1992 300zx. Bought a collins adapter and flywheel from him and got that all mounted up. Also ended up buying a radiator from summitracing. 26x19x3 i believe. and will be welding the mounts up for it soon. Got my intercooler mounts all welded up.
Replaced all bushings with polyurethane up front and am buying all new arms for the rear arms. Got alot of my megasquirt wiring wired to the engine and am about ready to start it up when i get my cams and throttle cable in. Then i also need to relocate the battery and plum the fuel system.
Also will be fabbing up my shifter for the tranny here real soon shouldn't be all to bad to do.
Well that's about all i got for now will have more pictures soon.
Just wanted to give a update

Hey so I just bought the car and it’s running and driving but there are LED’s on the dash one on the right side is red and illuminated after driving for a short while, also I’m straggling to track down this mysterious fuel cut issue. If you would t mind shooting me a text I can give you my number and we can discuss the car a bit!
