Single turbo REW swap. Reputable shops can do it for 15. A built motor, big turbo and a tune, you're still under 25. And, with the right modifications / electronics, no check engine light.

After that? Authentic Mazdaspeed body kit (would have to buy one off another member, but everyone has a price), a copper red repaint from an 06 Shinka, I'd replace the interior, and get some smoke chrome rims. My two cents

Look up racing beat, pineapple racing, rx8performance, etc. I'm sure there are others, but these places will be able to point you in the right direction.
If you're serious about doing a project of this calibur, then don't waste your time getting answers from ppl here. You'll get a lot of "do this" do that" don't do what he said" drama. Do your OWN THOROUGH RESEARCH ON THE SUBJECT.

Otherwise, this thread is useless.

Knowing this, you should put a lot of thought into this and make your friend proud. Don't do the "quick and easy". Do your homework, and if the project is bigger than what you feel capable of doing, then call around to some reputable builders and see what they offer.

You won't get any detailed info on builds (REW, 20B, piston swaps, etc), and the site won't apologize for that. There is so much info out there that it takes too long to lay it all out. You need to read from other members' SUCCESSFUL (Key word) builds and go from there.
We're enthusiasts here. Not paid mechanical engineers...

That said- there are some members who will help. But don't expect a complete rebuild via Internet.

 

I've been trolling this forum for over a year now and there is a lot of useful information here.I believe in your goal and wish there was a way I could help you achieve it. You didn't come across as someone with an agenda, more like some wanna be poser(sorry). May I suggest you buy another engine that is not an ots, but constructed by a reputable builder and set it aside. That way you'll be creating longevity. Don't worry about going crazy with the engine build, from what I've read, the reni is already about 90% max as is. Also from what I've read here, and experienced with the two I own, this really is a great car out of the box.This is my opinion, if you want to promote this car for your fallen brother, be smart about it and don't blow what has been given (commissioned) to you. Read the threads that are informative and productive. Look for meets or clubs in your region and get firsthand information and ideas with your own eyes. I was a car audio wanna be from the time I was in high school, I went to event's, read books, looked at every magazine I could find that promoted the sport.Finally I took the leap,and made it a profession right before the first fast and furious movie came out . I don't do it for a living anymore but it was a great time. There are a lot of great cars here,and experienced people who will bend over backwards to help you but....you have to project the proper attitude and passion for the car, not "I've got a lot of money and a car"...I'm looking forward to what you create and share with the world, best of luck to you.
