Having an issue with my driver's side door window. Yesterday it started not wanting to go completely up or down. When I do get it to go up all the way if you flip the switch to the up position it starts making noise like gears are grinding. Wondering if anyone possibly knows what that would be. Don't think it matters in this case but it's a 2011 gt

I have had the doors apart.

The pieces involved in the S1 are a motor, a cable that pulls stuff up and down, and a track things slide in. The main track is in the middle, and hard to get to. IIRC, the gear as set up to slip if too much torque is passed through them. And, if you have the window all the way up, it should not do anything.

My GUESS is that the system has a current sensor on the motor, that senses up and down by the load on the motor (when it hits the stops, current will spike). Not sure, but that is how a lot f stuff works.

If it were my car, I would pull the door panel, re-install the switch, and look at what is happening. Make sure to put the nuts back in the track after you pull the panel (at least on an S1).

Things that are easy include: clean and grease both sides, front and back, of the track; look for obstructions; look for loose wires; or say a prayer over the parts.
