Hey guys, my name is Joe. As maybe a few of you may have guessed, I'm a Marine stationed in arguably one of the worst duty stations a Marine can get in the Fleet.


A li'l bit about myself, I'm 25 years. I live with my wonderful wife and son in the middle of the ******* desert. I've only got about 2 more years left out here before I move back east, but its honestly been kinda nice living out here.


Anyways, are there any other Marines on here in the area? Or Sailors perhaps? I don't have many friends out here to hang out with, but I sure do miss my car club I used to be part of back east when I owned my Fiero, so I'm none too picky about friends.


I'm planning on buying an 8 in May, unless I can find a good deal between February and then. Unfortunately my finances got screwed due to a number of reasons, mostly from IPAC, lousy lazy turds...

After about 3 months of looking at good deals come and go, letting time slip on by til it got closer to time, I think I finally found a decent looking 8 for sale on CL. Guy/gal says its got 135k on the ticker, its a loaded manual that's not silver/grey. I can't tell if its black or Nordic green from the pics, but the guy isn't in a hurry and he's willing to wait til I've got the cash so that makes me happy.

Just another month and I'll have my own 8!

Thanks bud. Well here I am. Been lookin for someone who wanted to be active for a while now. You'll notice there's a fee 8s on base (maybe 2, 7s) but none of them are active on here. There's one up for sale right by two mile. (i dunno to much about it) but definitely looking forward to some company out here. Possibly a wrench buddy!

FYI I drive a WB. Shadowblack Konigs, no spoiler Bama plates, and too low for speedbumps. BHR decal rear center window.

One of the Sunlight Silver's on base is driven by a Cpl in my shop. He's not interested in modding it at all tho. Its all fugged up right now, big dent in the fender and red paint all on the drivers side under carriage and side.

I'll keep an eye out for ya. My DD is a gay as aids Nissan Versa, but my wife likes it. I'd rather burn the thing and bury it in the dirt somewhere.

Im in MCCES Det B Maintenance, who're you with? I took a peek at that 8 on the corner, since I saw on my way to 801, but I just dont feel like dealing with a car from 29 again. I bought a Tiburon right after I got out here from Rad Wheels(really bad idea, I know), and it was a POS..

You guys are Marines, let the Navy guy clear it up for you. He is saying he used to be a grunt but now he is "oh you fancy huh" grunt. He is lives in the RV park on base. And he wants to know what your plans for RX-8 are, once you get it.

 

Lol, sorry they don't teach us POG's how to talk to grunts, fancy or otherwise. They just tell us to look down and walk away quickly.

For the first bit I won't be able to do any performance mods, but I want to start with possibly doing my own bodywork on it. Custom kit, anyone? And I plan on attempting to explore the Renny to see if it can become more mpg-efficient until I'm out of the Corps and can afford to do performance upgrades.

Mind you, before I get flamed horribly, I haven't explored the forum all that much to see if anyone else has done this. I try and read as much as I can before I ask. I don't like looking like an idiot when an answer is obvious

 

All i know is they train Marine tankers in 29 Palms. We do it in Ft. Irwin...

 

We train electronics people too. Makes no freakin sense..
Oh, and I help train LAAD too. That's the only time I really feel like a Marine. They're motivating guys, I like 'em.

Well anything you wanna do or no to, whatever, i'm always down for wrench work. Don't care what it is. I helped my dad operate a mechanic and auto body shop before the gun club. If you want help trying to find an 8 lemme know.

I've been reading more and I realized that when I mentioned the taboo subject of fuel economy I may have made myself pretty unpopular =P

Just to set the record straight, I fully intend to modify the ever-lovin **** outta my 8 after my finances are a bit easier to work with. My end goal after the Corps is to move back to East TN(amazing driving around those parts!), go to school for autobody mostly for the certs and open up my own shop. I figured that would be an excellent area to do it, especially since Knoxville is right at the base of the Smokies with Deals Gap every year.

And Ronni, I'd love to have another wrenching buddy. After I get my 8 in february I'll prolly need some help givin it a inspection to see what all it needs. Not to mention just having a good time goofin off

Anyways, yea fuel economy is **** but we love our cars anyways. Def willing to help out. I don't recommend mods till after you've figured out the bugs and made sure she is tip top before hand. As well as research. Lots of it. If I hadn't fallen in love with my car I would have gotten rid of it long ago

 

Welcome, I love that part of TN.
Spent our honeymoon up on Cherokee Lake, did a lot of road tripping around there & Gatlinburg.
I can imagine how much fun it would be to drive an 8 up to Clingman's Dome & back.
Guys here talk about the "Tail of the Dragon"?

Yeah, the Tail of the Dragon is pretty nice, I've only been on a lil bit of it tho. A lot of accidents happen up there, kinda scare of it honestly.
