GT only has leather, I assume by suede he means stock cloth seats so with the HIDS it's a Touring.

Its a Touring model. The GT had all of the touring features but added leather seats and heated mirrors. So, if you have Bose, auto dimming mirror, and a moonroof, its a Touring model. One model down is the Sport. The Sport adds HID headlights, DSC (traction control), and fog lights. The Base model has none of the above.

Yeah I stored Hoss-05's Base Sport (No fogs, No DSC, No Xenons) for almost two years and drove it often and it didn't feel any different than my Touring. The worst part about them in the stereo and no Xenons.

idk mine just felt more nimble and easier to drift out of corners cause it was lighter and didnt have dsc. i also removed a bunch of unnecessary **** like cat, air pump, vfad, etc. it doesnt seem like much but sunroof, leather, power/heated seats, dim mirror, nav, tc, bose all start to add up

That is a Base model. The Sport adds HID lights, traction control, and fog lights. I have an 04 Base model that has no DCS, no HID's, and did not come with fog lights. I added the fog lights by buying the Mazda kit. Everything was plug and play.

I don't care what that publication says, it's wrong. If it has a 6MT, then it's a Sport.

2005 Base Sport. No Fogs, NO DSC, No Xenons.

I just noticed that your own pic shows that those items are optional............. And DSC, etc is not plug in play, the non DSC cars use a different ABS modulator, etc. And the Xenons are not plug an play either, the wiring is different.

The 6spd models came with the upgraded suspension, limited slip differential and the larger wheels as standard equipment. The Sport package was an optional package with manual or automatic transmission. If the RX-8 originally came with an automatic transmission it came with the 16" wheels, smallerbrakes, and standard suspension. To get the larger wheels, bigger brakes, limited slip diff, and sport suspension, it had to have the Sport package. Now, the 8 could be had as a 6spd Base model as well. It was a 6spd car it automatically came with the larger wheels, sport suspension, bigger brakes, and the limited slip differential. It did NOT have HID's, fog lights or DSC. I have one. Its an 04 Base 6spd model with no DSC, no fog lights (originally), and no HID's. I have the warranty sheet on it from Mazda showing all of the options. Here is an up close pic of that portion of the warranty sheet:

Now, here is the warranty printout for my very first RX-8, an d05 Sport model, also with a 6spd manual transmission. Note, the option code for the Sport package and note the equipment listed with that particular package, xenon lights, fog lights, and DSC:

Now, finally, here is the warranty sheet for my 05 GT model. Note how it lists in the options section a specific GT package, which you can see again with the GT package, the specific GT options are listed among the other items that the car came with:

So, this should prove to you that not all 6spd RX-8's are in fact Sport models. Yes, they have the sport suspension, larger wheels, larger brakes, and have the limited slip diff, but they do lack the specific Sport model options such as DSC, fog lights, and HID head lights. When I bought the car 2 years ago, I thought the same, that all 6spd models were Sport package cars and found out that when the car had no DSC as I was driving it home in the rain, I realized that it must be a base. After some digging and a trip to the dealer to get the warranty sheet, my suspicions were confirmed.

The options under the Sport package are just that, options. You could pick and choose, just like I could pick and choose on my Touring. The Sport package did not automatically add all of those things.

You have your dealer print outs, that's cool, we bought our cars new.... And FYI, the options/packages and what was available changed over the years as well.

Doesn't matter if I bought one new or not, ive been an RX-8 owner since 08, buying my first from the dealer. I had researched them when new but since i had just gotten out of the active duty army and bought a house, a new car wasnt in the budget then. Ive owned four since then and currently have 3.

And yes over the years the option packages did change. So what you're saying is that if you ordered the Sport package you could pick and choose whether or not the car came with fog lights or DSC and HID headlights? This is pretty interesting because I was under the impression the trim level came standard with the options listed in the brochure as part of the package and any other options you wanted could be tacked on to that particular trim level. For instance if you wanted the touring model you could add navigation or side aero flares or any other accessory, but could not add leather or heated mirrors as those bumped you into a GT.

Yes, some things you could add when ordering, some could be added at the dealer.
