Well that didn’t last

I bought my RX-8 in February and it sat in the garage until about a month ago. I’d just finished installing BHR midpipe and coils and replacing the fluids then..

WHAM! A wild idiot has appeared! He pulled out into an intersection prematurely, threw it in reverse and floored it until he was sitting on my hood. Claimed he didn’t see me or hear my horn.

Anyway, the fun has just begun. I’ll keep you posted on the insurance claim. The damage looks severe but it’s only cosmetic. I was able to drive home.

It happened

It happened in Clinton NJ coming out of a shop rite center.
The auto body shop told me today they think it’s a total loss. I’m pissed because Bluebook value is nothing compared to what I’ve put into the car. I’m hoping they take that into account here.

ill let you guys know how insurance responds.
Unfortunately I’m leaving for the AF in 14 days or I’d part it back out. If anybody in NJ wants to put an offer on this car let me know. I’d be willing to take less from insurance and sell this to somebody willing to fix it up. It runs fine I drove it 20 miles like this.

The bags didn’t deploy. Until they give me a for sure solution/number I’m keeping my hopes up!

Were there any cameras in the intersection? That's freakin ridiculous.

No cameras in the intersection. Luckily the other party claimed responsibility or else it would have gotten messy.

So insurance has finished their evaluations and offered me $7k for the car. That's about what I paid for it so Im not upset with that price. They said I can keep the car for a $875 deductible. If I wasnt in a pinch and leaving next week for 9 months I would probably take the option of keeping it and parting it out. (BHR Midpipe & Coils, Borla catback, Gramlight wheels) But Im just gonna take the money and run. Its been real RX8 club. Ill miss you guys :'(

Good luck. At the end of the day, it's just a car. And who knows, perhaps there's another RX-8 (or RX-9) in your future!

Bummer,

Might try a quick for sale post in the North East section. If you were down here, I would be on the way.

Been a while since this post. They Totaled the car. Got $7k back atleast. In hindsight, it was a blessing because I got selected to go to Alaska for work. Would have had to sell the car anyway.

We'll see how things pan out. Being in the USAF its tough to collect cars right now. Also, got a kid on the way, so I foresee a SUV crossover in my future. I did love tuning up and driving the RX-8. I liked it more than my Honda S2000. Hopefully some of my investments pan out and I'll have my dream collection one day. An RX-8 is definitely in there. For now, so long fellas!
