Hi... So my 8 is a lowered 8.. dont know how low since i bought it like that and today i had to drive all around and went through a major puddle/lake thing.. i kept telling my 8 i wont give up on her when it started stopping and not wanting to go ;/ i kept pressing the gas all the way in and for a while it would stay at the same pace, eventually it got up to speed and i was on my way but while that was happening the CEL went on... at first it was flashing a lil but then stayed solid.. another thing that happened for a lil was that i was not able to go pass 5 rpm's for some odd reason... right now i just got home and the car runs like normal.. but the light is still on, any ideas what it could be? why it would happen? a DIY to fix it?

You need to have the code read. The flashing light was a misfire. Also, NEVER drive through standing water.

 

water probably got to the MAF sensor (through intake possibly) and car freaked out.
pull code, dry things out.

 

I pulled the code and it was MAF sensor. P103 i think it was called not sure but i searched it and MAF Came up. How do i go about drying it out ?

you can pull the MAF out and spray some MAF sensor cleaner on it. Check the MAF tube to make sure there isn't any water left in there, you could clear that out with some compressed air or a microfiber towel if you're feeling so inclined.
what kind of intake does your car have? Check the filter, that could still have water in it.

 

lol 20 points now that the light went off.. i cleaned out the MAF but i am not sure what is the tube? my MAF is connected to my AEM intake system. i looked online for where the filter can be but can not find it. any ideas? this has been a big help

 

The fatal flaw of the AEM intake is, that it sits too low in the front orifice and ingests water when it rains, or especially when you drive through standing water. There is no reason for AEM to locate it there. The OEM intake is a true CAI that takes its air from high under the bumper, without the risk of water ingestion.

 

would it be best to get an oem? i live in california so rain is rare. its just these few days where it was crazy.. why would an oem be better ? just trying to get info

YouKNow; if you already have the AEM intake, you're fine. No sense in going back to OEM.
where abouts in Cali are you?

 

IMHO, the AEM intake is a performance part that limits the car to dry or mostly dry conditions. It would work for me, since my car is mainly a track toy, but it will limit usage for some other people.

I have never upgraded my intake, because my data logger shows IAT to be within 2F of ambient, and the OEM intake is not restrictive with a normally aspirated Renesis. Dynos of the AEM (taken with the hood open, BTW) show a 2 to 3 HP gain, which is well within the margin of error for any dyno, and that tells me it is mostly just a cool looking noise maker.

i am in the SFV ... like 15 min away from LA, it makes sense to not fix whats not broken but @Steve Dallas makes a lot of sense.. will probably keep this in the back of my mind tho because i need to save up money for new ignition coils ... if the weather keeps getting worse and worse i might find a way to see if i can keep an aem but not allow it to get water like steve pointed earlier.. idk though lol

 

AEM makes a water sock that goes over the filter. Do you have it? It prevents most problems with normal rain conditions.

Yeah, the water sock could help you, I'm sure you can get one from AEM fairly cheap.

AEM Drysock. If you're in bleh conditions or dusty conditions, run it. No questions asked. I've got one on mine, because CO is made of dirt and rocks and all sorts of stuff that I don't want in my intake.
