Hi all, newbie Rx8 owner here needing some advice.
I've recently purchased an 04 Rx8 (192) goes like stink and is a fantastic car all round, however it does have the dreaded hot start issues. I can always get her going, but sometimes takes 3 attempts and is rather embarrassing. Anyway, called mazda today and there is an outstanding recall on the car (A0670A) which is a hot start and general drivability recall. Spoke to the parts guy asking what will be done under the recall and he said check spark plugs and replace if they are.the wrong type and a.software update. My question is, does anyone know what this update does or has anyone been through this recall?
Any advise would be appreciated.

Have a compression test done while you are there.

 

i just bought a new engine welll not that i wanted too. would have been sheaper to rebuild

 

An 04 without MSP-16 after all this time (our last ecu update was issued in 08) sounds scary.

 

Any idea what the update does?

 

Update done plus changed 2 spark plugs all under recall. Just tested after driving for 30 minutes and she started perfectly!!

 

Guess you found out, huh? It fixes the starting problem and removes the egg from your face from starting efforts.
