Help I can't get into gear while the car is on even with the clutch all the way in.

what happens when you release the clutch. Does is come back up or stays stuck to the floor.

Also, take a closer look at the clutch padel and see if the assebmly is broken

What city are you stuck in?

When you let the clutch up, does the pedal come back up all the way like it used to? Or does it come up partway, maybe a little lopsided? If it doesn't come up all the way, it's likely you have a broken clutch pedal bracket. There's an extended warranty on that (8 years). Best to get it towed to a Mazda dealer rather than try to drive it like that.

The clutch pedal is fine it feels the same and I looked under and nothing looks broken. I'm in NYC and don't know what to do. The car moves a tiny bit when I push the clutch in and try to jam it into first. It feels like there's something blocking.

could be your linkage became loose and got stuck out of gear and will need to be reset, or could be that your clutch is no longer engaging for some reason or another.

How did your shifter feel prior to getting stuck? did it transition smoothly on a hard H line through the gears or was it loose and sloppy letting you cut the corners of the H?

Seems like your clutch is no longer engaging.
Pop your hood and see if you smell some funny oil burning smell or something

Quick fix does not seem likely. The clutch is not disengaging. Possibilities include a broken pedal bracket (doesn't sound like that), disc lining shredded, failure in the hydraulic system. Maybe something else mechanical. It'll really take looking at the linkages and stuff while someone presses the pedal.

Tow home if you're equipped to deal with it there. Or a trustworthy shop if you know one.

I'm towing it home because it's way too late to take it to a mechanic. Wait so this means I would have to tow it again if I wanna take it to a mechanic. Wth. is there a way that I can drop the trans myself in my backyard with jackstands?

Yes - you can do it on jackstands. I don't think there's a DIY on that, but enough members here have done clutch replacements without a lift.

The DIY forum does have some relevant posts on the clutch. Worth browsing there. I think there's a link to on-line copies of the shop manual.

Take a real good look at the pedal. It can look and feel completely normal even though it is broken. Lay under the dash and press the pedal. Try to wiggle it from side to side. It should not have sideways movement. Check for oil leaking from the master cylinder inside and out. Then try to look for oil on the lines and the slave cylinder. Check your clutch fluid level.

Does your trans shift fine while the car is off?

The pedal is fine. I came back to my mechanic and he told me the clutch was stuck and he did something to get it unstuck now the car moves but it's got some ugly noises going on. So now I'm shopping for a clutch kit which should I get?

I would go with a an OEM style Exedy. Supposedly they make all of them anyway. that noise is the release bearing dying. I got mine form Black Halo. To do it right, the pilot bearing needs to be changed. That needs a special tool. The DIY's spell it out.

Definitely go with OEM. It has more torque holding capacity than the stock engine can produce, it lasts for 90,000 miles or more when driven properly, it fits perfectly, and it's cheap.

DO NOT get an Exedy Stage1. There are QA related problems that you may or may not get a good clutch, and if you don't, you have to buy a new clutch and pull the transmission yet again. It simply isn't worth the risk until Exedy acknowledges the problem and fixes it.

Exedy Factory Clutch Kit, RX-8 | Black Halo Racing
That is $380 shipped, and includes every part , including a pilot bearing seal that other vendors do not include with the kit (BHR adds it to the kit because it needs to be replaced too, other vendors leave it up to you to find one).

Edit: Ray corrected me, the pilot bearing seal that he adds is to the other Exedy kits, the OEM kit already comes with it.
