Tyre Sizes
Hi guys and girls.
Just a quick one.
I've got a 2004 Rx8.
Just noticed that my rear tyres are larger than the recommended 225/45/18 size.
I've currently got 245/45/18 on the rear, and 225/45/18 on the fronts.
Is there any benefit to this set up? Or should i revert back to the recommended size of 225/45/18 on all 4 wheels as recommended in the owners manual.
Only asking as i need new rears.
thanks.
Liam

Unless you have a specific suspension reason for going staggered, you should have the same size on all 4 corners. The RX-8 is really neutral balanced already, so there are only a few rare circumstances that this isn't true.
245/40/18 is a common alternate size, though I don't know that 245/45/18 is really used much, as it's 2.7% taller than the 225/45 size.
You can replace either pair of tires fine, just whichever you keep, buy 2 more in the same size. If I was in your shoes, I'd keep the pair with the most tread left, just due to cost.
