trials and tribulations of my 05 RX8.

hopfully this one posts. i spent a LONG time on, and it didnt post. very frustrating.
good thing i copied the first part of it..

just got my 3rd rx8. ive had 2 04's and the current one i own is a 05 6speed. i will be posting
everything ive been through so far with my current 8 and how i fixed it and so on.
and ill probably be posting a rebuild as well. this is a new account but ive had another one previously, lost the login info. ive been apart of the forum and have been lurking and reading for years.
my friend rebuilds rotaries, so ive learned alot from him, but he lives in Denver now...so ill be doing a rebuild myself. ive been researching for a long long time on rotaries and rebuilds. watching videos and reading manuals. aaron cake has taught me ALOT with his videos (he is the ****) as well with a little hands on with my friend that moved off.

i got an oil change the week after i got it.
flushed the radiator.
at this point the car runs, revs and starts good..hot and cold. 45,875 miles the day i drove off the lot. paid 6,900 for it. garage kept, not a scratch on it.
drove it to huntsville to hang with my lady and walk around down town huntsville. drove home. car still runs great.
drove it to huntsville again 2 weeks later. it drove great all the way there and back just fine. woke up for work the next day and it started up hesitantly. i was thinking maybe the battery ir soemthing. wasnt sure. but it drove and reved up fine. stopped at the store and ehen i came out to the car and tried to crank...it wouldnt start for like 30, 40 min. just kept turning over without actually catching/firing up. drove it home and started messing with it to dind the issue. pulled the plugs and the front rotors plugs were literally broke. the tips of the plugs that the wires clip onto were still inside the wire when i pulled them off. never seen this before.
here are the pictures of the plugs. front rotor is on the left, back is on the right

i assume that this is my problem after pulling the plugs. So I ordered you wires, coil packs, and spark plugs and replaced them. Got everything back together still really hesitant to start.Obviousl since this didn't fix my issue I started messing around with other things. Got under the car to check to see what starter it had on it... and it still had the original starter. so I replaced it thinking that that may be my issue also. I didn't have a lot of cash to drop on the new MazMart starter so I got a Duralast starter from O'Reilly's. the original starter had 1.6 kilowatts and the new one I bought has 2.0 kilowatt. i assumed it was a stronger starter. and this still didn't fix the issue maybe because I bought a cheaper starter...I'm not really sure. drove the car after work a few times here and there to see if it showed any other symptoms besides my random hot start issue..which I'm trying to rule out loss of compression because I have still a lot of power it seems like normal Power. I pulled the back seat apart to get to the fuel pump and I was going to drive it to orileys to rent a fuel pressure gauge. And never got around to it.. so I drove the car to work the next day and on my way home my car stalled out at the red light an eighth of a mile away from my house pushed it into a parking lot. i long boarded home and sat there for about 30 minutes and skated back. Try to get the car to start for a couple minutes and couldn't. I kept smelling fuel so I was sniffing around and I sniffed at the seat where the fuel pump is and found that the fuel pump was actually leaking from the top like they all do. Finally got the car to start and now with the CEL on the dash. I took it oreillys to have the code read, it was a code for crankshaft position sensor so I assume that that might be my issue. so I pulled it off it was a little dirty.. I cleaned it and reinstalled. didn't help the issue at all but after disconnecting my battery the code went away. Mazda is coming to pick the car up Saturday for the recall on the fuel pump hopefully this is my issue but for some reason I feel like it's not. im getting a compression test while im there.

continued...pictures of plugs i pulled off

left plugs is front rotor
right is back rotor

got the car back from the dealer. compression is good on all faces. got the fuel pump recall taken care of.
still the same hot start issues.
but runs GREAT... except when you drive it a little while and run it pretty hard. i drove it on some twisty backroads redlining it pretty often to get it nice and warm.. pulled it into my carport and looked under it and saw this...

cat is red hot. im ordering the bhr midpipe friday! hopfully this resolves my sudden hot start issues.

to anyone who actually has a bhr midpipe installed on their car... does it shoot flames? lol and are they constant flames? or is it breif puffs of flame? what i really wanna know is... Willit mess the black plastic at the bottom of the bumper up?

Yep, mileage means nothing really, I had two engines last less than 45000 miles.

yea your right. but i assumed it was a good price because of the miles. both of my other rx8s lasted a long time. i had 150,000 miles on one and 120 on the other one. and thats on the actual engine itself, notwhat it said on the dash.. they both had mazda remaned engines in them. i took tedious care of both of them. i wanted the car. so i got it. lol. its saidand done with now. so yea.

instead of saying its bullshit, you should ask how id put that many miles on a car...
for instance. i live in alabama and drove to colorado, washington state and northern California for business an uncountable amount of times. usually once or twice a month. a one way trip to denver colorado is about 1200 miles. so if you do the math at driving to the mid west 20 times a year 2400 miles round trip. you could in fact put that many miles on it. and in 2015 i took a whole year off to travel. i did a round country trip in my last rx8. which was around 8000 miles. i burned up 2 cats asn replaced my ignition system 3 times along the way. i also went to an insane amount of music festivals between 2010 and 2016. usually these festivals were way up north or out west. and your probably thinking. why on earth would you drive an rx8 that much for travel purposes?? because u could, and i had plenty of money for maintenance, and i love rotary engines. so i didnt really want to buy any other car when i coukd just have the car of my choice and afford the maintenance on them.

amd the number 270 thousand miles was never said. i just said that they both had remaned engines in them. they were already in both of them when i bought them. so i didnt personally put 270k on them in total. but i definitely did put a substantial amount of miles on both of them. close to 200k over the course of my travels in a 3- 4 year period
