Total Power Loss

Total Power Loss
I was driving 65 mph for some time when all of the sudden there was no power. I stopped off the side of the road, turned the engine off and back on, and went about my trip for another 20 miles or so. A day later, after a couple of short trips, the car would not start at all. There was not a lot of fuel in the car, but there was enough. I had it towed to a Mazda dealer, who changed the fuel pump. It was fine for a couple of days, and now it did exactly the same thing it did the first time. No power at 65 mph, low, but not out of fuel, filled up, started it and got home. Now, I am afraid it will strand me again. Could it be something else? It doesn't sound like the same thing others are experiencing with coils, but could it be?

Check your battery connections too. It's strange and everything I've been taught says it shouldn't make a difference, but it's happened to me.
Wait a minute, when you say no power, do you mean electrical or engine power. If engine power, it could be the fuel pump over heating and cutting out. The fresh fuel cooled down the pump so it could run again.

Hmm, I would agree with the dealer here that everything you are describing is pointing at fuel pump failure. Makes me wonder if either A) they didn't actually replace it, or B) something else exceedingly rare is failing that would shut off the fuel pump, like the fuel pump resistor (or rather, wiring to it)
