Looking for some input. I have a 2004 6 speed and am looking at replacing the tires. Book says tires that come with the car are 225/45R18. The tires that came with the car when I bought it a year and a half ago are 245/40R18. What is the major difference? I'm inclined to go with what it has currently but don't know if that size is hurting the performance of the car. I don't do anything with the car other than drive it to work and normal daily stuff (errands, drop off child at sitter, etc.) but I do like push her when I'm in the mood. Thoughts or suggestions?

 

Most members have swapped to that size with no ill results. The 245s have a wider contact patch with the road, which improves handling very slightly.

The most important part is picking the size that has the tire for you, as there are offerings in one size that are not available in the other, and vice versa.

 

I would say choosing between these two sizes is less important than choosing the right make/model of tire.

Either size will work fine. Just don't pick some craptacular Nexen or Ling Long tires.

 

Thank you for the feedback. The tires I have on there right now are Dunlop's and that's what I plan on replacing them with.
