Thinking of buying an rx8

Hey guys I’m looking to buy an rx8 been researching it a lot been talking to some people about the rotary engine and how to maintain the engine to keep it going but I see one thing that people say is bad and that’s daily driving an rx8 short distance is very bad for the engine I work full time and my job is 20-30 minutes away. Thoughts on this? I really like this car and I have no problem with the gas consumption or maintenance I just don’t wanna get this car If it’s bad to drive short distances daily. Thanks in advance!!!

How you drive it is far more important than how long you drive it. 20-30 minutes is plenty to get the engine and fluids up to temp and get a couple WOT pulls in. I put 80k miles on my 07 like that and she ran as good the day I sold her as the day I drove her off the lot.

Sounds fine. 2 minutes is short distance, 20 is ok

One option is to buy one with a dead engine and put in a freshly rebuilt replacement. That gives you the car cheaply and erases the previous owners mistakes (which is the root cause of many problems).

In summer, it takes me 5 minutes to warm up. Winter is a bit longer, around 10 minutes.

20~30 minutes drive are not short by any means.

A twenty to thirty minute drive each way is plenty. So as others have said, that should not be a factor in your decision.

If you can afford it, get an S2, but do keep in mind that S2 aftermarket support is a bit more limited(no SOHN kit, for example).

Make sure you get a rotary-specific compression test before purchase.

I would do more research in this forum, and get more familiar with pros and cons so you can make a smart decision.
Read and then read some more so you can get more familiar with the platform these car require more commitment from its owners.
